![]() well, probably not - but after your post I have searched high and low and the results has not been very encouraging. I do have a bunch, but.... more about that later. I think we must have evolved our brains differently, perhaps why Japanese and Chinese seem to have an eye for detail ? I don't see how you can make out all the variations. What I don't understand is the coding that Duokan have engaged in, as it should not be so hard. Instead it seems they patch up the code to present a graphical image of a character, but the encoding becomes wrong and non portable. ( they may have some good reasons, but I don't see it ) Last edited by FethryDuck; 04-09-2011 at 09:29 PM. |

Installed it yesterday. As a newbie on all issues regarding e-book devices: is there a way to underline text in the "A" mode or in landscape rotation in Duokan, when using pdf's? I could not find any...
(by the way, what is the difference between "digest" and "marks" in the menu that comes up after highlighting text?) Many thanks in advance. |

There is some current mix-up of words. You copy the marked text to a digest, but "marks" is some "note or comment" you write. Both digest and notes can later be exported. |

ShortcutKeys
hi,
In an attempt of making some English help-document, I have extracted some portion in the attached file. If you like, you can copy it to DK_System/system/Profiles/ and change the DK_System/config.ini like this: #HelpPath=/mnt/base-us/DK_System/system/Profiles/HelpDocument.txt HelpPath=/mnt/base-us/DK_System/system/Profiles/Shortcut_keys.txt/Shortcut_keys.txt ( btw. working on the rest of the HelpDocument.. ) |

Hey guys,
I need a little help getting duokan on my kindle 3wifi (3.1). I installed the newest jailbreak, screensaver and fonts hack w/o any issues. I followed the instructions from flip.netzbeben.de and tried to install the english version 0.5.13.8914 (2011/04/08). The steps... 1. I copied DK_Documents, DK_Pictures, DK_System and the 3 bin files update_duokan_0b00x.bin to the root directory of my kindle. 2. Home > Menu > Settings > Menu > Update Kindle 3. Update stops after 1/3 and I get a message that it was unsuccessful (U007). 4. I tried to uninstall duokan by copying update_unduokan_0b00x.bin (3 files) to the root folder, but here the kindle update procedures fails, too. Would be wonderful if somebody could help me! ![]() regards! bearmann |

Besides, I believe the Duokan has its own jailbreak, so you may have to uninstall your own first. I may be mistaken, though. |

To bearmann:
I think this fail may not be caused by you copying all the three .bin files. In the recent installation document Duokan provides(see this page:http://www.duokan.com/forum/thread-7709-1-2.html),it says to copy all the three files to the root directory, and kindle will select the corresponding file by itself. As eLiNK said, the problem may be caused by jailbreak, you can uninstall jailbreak and have another try.Good luck! |

![]() It is correct that Duokan should select the correct one itself, but .. then you skip an extra safeguard against errors. There may be some programming error, for instance. Duokan is not dependant on the Jailbreak, it manage all that itself. After a successful update, it shall remove those update files you have in the root directory. However - they seem to have forgotten to tidy things up recently. In another reboot, the Amazon update function may think it is it's own "update" and that will fail, thus you usually get an error message about a failed update. Most often (U003). I wonder if your error message is due to some change in path.. - looks like I have forgotten the details, sorry. The update errors is created by the Amazon update mechanism, and usually the Duokan install/update works and is already updated. Your situation is not much fun, as you may have to reboot several times before it get's out of the situation. NOW - press the power on button and HOLD it, do not Release it before you have counted to 30 or so.. when you have come to around 12, the green led may turn off, but keep holding it and continue to count. When it now reboots, it will do a more thoroughly reboot. You may have to do it several times. Hopefully - it will come around. Last resort will be to hook up some serial cable and attempt to save it. Hope this helps, and wish the very best of luck. ( Maybe it was somewhat long answer, but hope to give some idea of what seems to take place. ) Added note: You did try update_unduokan_0b00x.bin - which hopefully did uninstall Duokan, and everything should be back to normal. Which mean, you have to start from the beginning again. Now, ALWAYS use a fresh copy of DK_System folder. Meaning - do not try to update duokan more then once with that directory as some files shall be removed by the install process, just like the update_duokan_0b00x.bin. Thanks for the help everyone!
This is the content of kindle root folder just before the update, with all the *.bin files from "...\Duokan_0_5_13_8914__2011_04_08_english\升级包\k3 升级包" ![]() I have a Kindle 3 Wifi US (3.1) ... how do I determine the necessary *.bin file? As a side note: Even after an unsuccessful update no *.bin files remain in the root folder. And I always get the error U007 during the update process and no errors during the reboot. regards. bearmann PS: And I'm quite sure, that it's NOT bearwoman. ![]() Last edited by bearmann; 04-12-2011 at 04:05 AM. |

![]() It sound like you have a model B008. If you look in your Settings in Amazon, it is the first four digits of your serial number. You have jailbroken it and according to some other post I found, NiLuJe said the following in one of them: "And if they failed with a U007 error on the bottom left corner, then you'll need to reinstall a jailbreak before running your uninstalls. And the jailbreak *has* to be the last thing uninstalled." However, I am not sure - as I thought that error had to do with signature on the updating file. Not familiar with version 3.1, and the Jailbreak is somewhat modified. So ? Does your screensaver hack and so on work properly ? You may check in that thread what is said regarding that update error. So, check that the those things are good. As for the Duokan, you may try the original: http://dl.dbank.com/c0e2kfz6xt Flip's version could, or perhaps the download could, have some error. ( He just alter the config file a little, but there was some errors appearing in downloads from Duokan, so..) Your are sure it does not start up at all ? Note, during startup - you will see the kid under the tree, the normal Amazon bootup. After about a third on the initial progress bar, it will switch to Duokan, and you have to catch that and press "Q" for it to start Duokan. After a few seconds, it will revert to the normal Amazon. For Duokan, it will also revert a brief period to Amazon before it finally start up on it's own. If you have missed pressing the "Q" during bootup, then you may mistakenly think it did not install. Restart again and see what is happening during the bootup process. The error message may have to do with the Jailbreak, not Duokan. Not sure about the #4 in you list, as the update_unduokan_0b00x.bin is normally not used anymore. You may uninstall directly in the menu-settings under Duokan. It should work out. |

unable to boot Duokan!
Just bought a Kindle 3 Wifi International version, followed Flip's instructions and got the English Duokan working OK. BUT,....
after introducing a stardict dictionary in Duokan, changing the main dictionary and creating some collections in Kindle, I am unable to load Duokan,... it justs stays frozen at the last dot of the progress bar! I have tried to reinstall it, but no luck, I have not noticed any change. Is there any known way to solve this? The thread is not very clear about how to uninstall Duokan (in the worst scenario) if you are not able to load it. thanks in advance! |

Uinstall: 1. The prefered method is simply using the Duokan Settings Uninstall feature. ( 4th line down in the Settings menu ) 2. A secon option is using an "update_unduokan_0bxxxx.bin in your root file system. Personally, I have not tested these features recently. Another option would be to use Amazon's reinstall system, which should delete everything and install a clean system. ( you may check the Amazon site for more information - I would, as perhaps your account and other needed info should be written down first ) I have tried to check with the Duokan site, but it has not been available today. If anyone could explain why that is - I would like to know.. |

well, after reading some blogs&threads I just erased the duokan system files, and the Kindle 3 starts as usual, with no duokan booter screen,...but I guess there are hidden scripts all over the place.
I might try to reinstall it just to use the uninstall script you told me!! Your first solution is not possible because I cannot load duokan!! I don't know,... I also happened to connect the kindle to a Macintosh, so maybe the hidden spotlight archives created by Macs are also a problem, I just don't think creating folders might break Duokan,.... thanks anyway, FethryDuck, I hope we can reach a solution, because Duokan is quite an enhancement!!! |
