Have you ridden much in the rain?

Apart from fogging up and wetting your spectacles (wait wait lazer surgery - non issue now)
The road, however much rain rains upon it seems to stay dirty. Lots of dirt ends up on your back from the very clean tyre spinning and picking up lovely wet dirt to spray on you.

Are you going for a 'get wet' option ride sarvo?

Last week I had the winter tires put on. We all have to do it in Western Lombardy, by law. Yesterday I filled her up. I could observe a 5% increase in gas consumption. I did most of the recent mileage at relative low speed. Of course there is more use of the heaters and the air vents as it is colder. And the wipers and the rear window defogger as it rained a lot. Who cares, it is just money. But it is interesting. I am sure it is the harder tires.

We don't have the same compulsion here in the UK, good in a way if this report is correct ... Some motorists who fit winter tyres to their car to cope with snow are being charged higher insurance premiums, it has been claimed.

There is no doubt that a car with winter tires has lower performances on dry roads, and it has to be conducted with more attention. Everybody with some substance between the ears must be aware of this. With snow it is a completely different ball game, or rather a bowling game

The temperature here is around 40 F this morning, but it's supposed to drop rapidly all day with a wind advisory. We're also supposed to have on-and-off snow showers later in the day, but with no accumulation here. At least the wind will dry up the streets that are wet from the rain last night, so hopefully we won't have ice!

40 F and pouring rain. It will be a race tonight [like Betty said] for the rain to dry off before the next arctic air mass moves in tonight - with flurries only they promise. Next week - daytime highs below freezing all week!
