The Templars' Last Secret is the tenth in Martin Walker's excellent IMO
Bruno, Chief of Police series. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK right now.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01KTSTDAU
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01KTSTDAU

Spoiler:
Quote:
In this latest mouthwatering mystery starring French country cop, Bruno, the body of a woman is found outside a cave beneath the ruined Templar chateau of Commarque in the heart of the Dordogne. She died of a broken neck. An accidental fall, or was she pushed?

The victim carries no identification and her fingerprints are not known to the French Police or Interpol. The only clue to the woman's identity is that her dentistry looks American, but Bruno's inquiries at local hotels and gites yield no trace of a missing foreign woman.

The chateau of Commarque, begun in the 11th century, was founded by a Bishop of Sarlat and entrusted to the Knights Templar. In the rocks beneath it are caves. It is one of the few Templar sites in France that has never been associated with the fabled hidden treasure of the Templars - never until now, when a local journalist publishes a sensational story around the unknown woman's death and a centuries-old mystery looks like it might finally be solved...

Intrigue in Covent Garden is the thirteenth and most recent in Susanna Gregory's Thomas Chaloner series, although it is getting a bit long in the tooth (2018) now.

It has dropped to £2.99 at Kindle UK, which is a bit much, IMO, for a four-year old book, but it is still the most-recent-in-series, so...

Also the first book in the series, A Conspiracy Of Violence, is £1.99 right now, so if you want to try that first, you can, for a good price.

Links and info for both are in @murraypaul's previous post here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3774678

ADD: And I also just noticed, some hours later, that the first two books (A Conspiracy of Violence and Blood on the Strand) are long-term-ish at $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Links and info in this previous post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3504184

Bangkok 8 is the first in John Burdett’s Sonchai Jitpleecheep, set in Thailand. It’s on sale right now in the US for $1.99.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Q67LA0
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000Q67LA0
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/bangkok-8

Spoiler:
Quote:
A thriller with attitude to spare, Bangkok 8 is a sexy, razor-edged, often darkly hilarious novel set in one of the world’s most exotic cities.

Witnessed by a throng of gaping spectators, a charismatic Marine sergeant is murdered under a Bangkok bridge inside a bolted-shut Mercedes Benz. Among the witnesses are the only two cops in the city not on the take, but within moments one is murdered and his partner, Sonchai Jitpleecheep—a devout Buddhist and the son of a Thai bar girl and a long-gone Vietnam War G.I.—is hell-bent on wreaking revenge. On a vigilante mission to capture his partner’s murderer, Sonchai is begrudgingly paired with a beautiful FBI agent named Jones and captures her heart in the process. In a city fueled by illicit drugs and infinite corruption, prostitution and priceless art, Sonchai’s quest for vengeance takes him into a world much more sinister than he could have ever imagined.

Crime Classics was an imprint (???) of UK e-publisher Agora books. They e-published mostly lesser-known Golden Age UK authors, like George Bellairs, Helen McCloy, and Henrietta Hamilton. And they had some better known authors too, like Michael Innes and Nicholas Blake. They sometimes even found (as with Hamilton) previously unpublished material and would work with the family to get it into shape to be published.

Today, however, I received this email from them:

Quote:
Hello Crime Classics Readers,
We hope you’re enjoying the summery weather and reading a cracking cozy crime novel.
We’re sad to say, though, that this will be the last communication you’ll receive from us here. We’ve had some behind the scenes changes, but we wanted to share our sincerest gratitude to you all for helping us build such an amazing community of classic crime readers and lovers. We’ve appreciated chatting with you, hearing reccomondations from you, and are so greatful to you for letting us drop in from time to time to do the same.

We’ve had such a wonderful experience and hope you have too.

On to the next great mystery,

The Team at Crime Classics
Which is not cryptic at all....

When I spot-checked some of their books at Kindle US and UK, some of them now seem to be missing the e-book versions (e.g. the Henrietta Hamilton and Nicholas Blake ones), and some seemed to still be available (George Bellairs). The differences may have to do with different contracts, or something ??? But since I usually didn't pay a ton of attention to whether something was a "Crime Classics" book or an "Agora" title, I'm not sure I can really draw any real conclusions. Anyway, if you have a favorite Crime Classics author, and hadn't pulled the trigger yet on a purchase or two, you might want to do so...

Oho! Well, that explains it. I’d noticed that some Nicholas Blake mysteries that weren’t available at Open Road were available at KU. So when I got a free offer for KU, I took it, thinking I’d get caught up on the Nigel Strangewayses. Only to find, alas, that they were no longer on KU. What a waste of a free subscription! But it’s always good to know why, so thank you for the explanation.

All the Devils Are Here (book 16 in the Chief Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny) - $2.99 at Amazon US

I've been waiting ages for this one to go down in price.

Spoiler:
On their first night in Paris, the Gamaches gather as a family for a bistro dinner with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. Walking home together after the meal, they watch in horror as Stephen is knocked down and critically injured in what Gamache knows is no accident, but a deliberate attempt on the elderly man’s life.

When a strange key is found in Stephen’s possession it sends Armand, his wife Reine-Marie, and his former second-in-command at the Sûreté, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, from the top of the Tour d’Eiffel, to the bowels of the Paris Archives, from luxury hotels to odd, coded, works of art.

It sends them deep into the secrets Armand’s godfather has kept for decades.

A gruesome discovery in Stephen’s Paris apartment makes it clear the secrets are more rancid, the danger far greater and more imminent, than they realized.

Soon the whole family is caught up in a web of lies and deceit. In order to find the truth, Gamache will have to decide whether he can trust his friends, his colleagues, his instincts, his own past. His own family.

For even the City of Light casts long shadows. And in that darkness devils hide.

ALL PRESIDENTS HAVE NIGHTMARES. THIS ONE IS ABOUT TO COME TRUE.

Matthew Keating, a one-time Navy SEAL and a former US President, has always defended his family as fiercely as he has his country.

Now these defences are under attack. And it's personal.

Keating's teenage daughter, Melanie, has been abducted, turning every parent's deepest fear into a matter of national security.

As the world watches, Keating embarks on a one-man special-ops mission that tests his strengths: as a leader, a warrior, and a father.

Because Keating knows that in order to save Melanie's life he will have to put his own on the line . . .

As I've mentioned before, neither £2.99 nor $4.99 is a particularly good sale price for 11-year-old backlist, but Susan Wittig Albert's books so rarely go on sale, and eReaderIQ doesn't show this one ever on sale for less, so...

Quote:
Susan Wittig Albert, “who consistently turns out some of the best-plotted mysteries on the market,”* delivers the charm and suspense in her latest herbal treat, Mourning Gloria. Now ex-lawyer and current herbalist China Bayles must stop a killer whose evil is burning through Texas…

China is relishing the scents, produce, and even the showers of spring. She’s also busy hosting Pecan Springs’ Farmers’ Market. It brings additional customers to her herb shop Thyme and Seasons. And residents find rare ingredients they wouldn’t otherwise find in the supermarket. Everybody wins…

But as the town bustles back to life in the warmth of the season, one woman’s life is tragically brought to an end. China happens upon a burning house trailer and hears a woman screaming for help. The evidence leaves no doubt that it’s arson homicide—but who would commit such a ghastly crime?

An intern-reporter at the local paper, Jessica Nelson, is assigned to cover the story. Drawn into the case by its similarity to her own tragic loss—Jessica’s family died in a fire—she soon finds herself deeply involved and in danger. And when Jessica disappears, China becomes determined to help find her, before she becomes headlines herself…
