I've tried it with IE on the XBOXes and it doesn't work on either, though almost all other websites work fine. But I will try it again in the fall, once the XBOX ONE gets updated for universal apps.

Miracast should work fine but since none of my toys support it I'd have to buy new hardware and at that point a stick PC would be a better solution for a "really large format" ebook reader.

Does it still bug anyone else that you can't just browse and search the appstore from the device itself?

Don't get me wrong, I love using my FireTV to watch TV, but it just kills me that in this day and age, I still need to use one internet-connected device to put an app on another internet-connected device.

I searched high and low to find the History Channel app in all the "recommendation" categories, before finally giving up and going to my PC to add the app to my FireTV.

Would it kill them to make searching for all FireTV apps in the appstore possible from the FireTV device itself (or is there an app for that)? Right now, it's like taking your safety-deposit box key to the bank so you can retrieve another key to go back home and unlock the beer fridge! Maddening!

*cue post that tells me how to easily do what I've been pulling my hair out trying to do in 3 ... 2 ...*

Finally ordered one of these. The voice search is one of the things I'm most interested in. Wondering how well the Android Fire TV app works, especially regarding search?

I ordered a stick for myself. I had bought a couple for Christmas presents, but I'm going on a trip, and I wanted to be able to take the stick with me. I decided not to get the 2-day shipping and get the $1 credit because I wouldn't need the stick for a couple weeks. Well, yesterday, my Fire TV box died, and the replacement won't arrive until Friday. I know, first world problems, I'll just use a laptop in its place until the replacement arrives. If I had opted for 2-day shipping, I would already have the stick. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

With the aquisition of another hdmi equipped set, our fire stick has come out if it's box and, after moving some equipment around, it's been given a new home in our bedroom tv. I like it. More than when I first tried it. And it's miracast implementation, while imperfect, handles mirroring of our smart phone screens WAY better than Chromecast. I'm considering trying to sideload xbmc, or whatever it's called now, to stream local media.

I really like my Fire TV Stick, but one issue I'm having is sound popping, especially with music. It is like listening to an old vinyl music collection. It doesn't happen with my Roku or Chromecast on the same TV. Not sure if I have a bad Fire TV Stick, or it just doesn't like my TV. I'm running the stick off the power brick and using the extender. Strange issue.

HBO Go now available on the Amazon Fire TV Stick

Quote:
When HBO Go arrived on the Amazon Fire TV in December of last year, Fire TV Stick owners were left empty handed. Amazon said the app would make its way to the Fire TV Stick “this Spring”. Well, it’s not officially Spring yet, but the wait for Fire TV Stick owners is over. HBO Go is now available on both the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.

Take a look at Vimu player.

http://www.amazon.com/Alexander-Koly...ds=vimu+player

It's not perfect and the GUI could use some work but it's worked okay for me.
I got it free so I'm not sure if it's worth $1.79 but I like its SMB support and unlike Plex, it actually sees my local media server.

Plex doesn't see your local Plex media server? How strange!

I might have to give that a try as well. I absolutely hated Plex compared to Serviio, so my Fire TV Stick is packed away for when we need it. I instead got a Sony S5200 for the 2nd TV and it's already gotten a lot of use.

My wife let me use her coins.
Not working too well for me, but maybe there will be updates.
Or at least an instruction book....

I have a standalone NAS that presents as SMB and Twonky.
The paid version of Plex won't see the files, Vimu does. No PC needed.
VIMU also lets me mount the hard drives connected to the WB TV live STB.

I mostly use my FIRE TV stick for music; PRIME, Pandora, and my own ripped CDs and LPs.

I know, I was joking. Plex is rather pointless if you don't also run a Plex server.
