Here's an interesting old song. Listen to the first 25 seconds of the first version to find the surprising origins of Lili Marlene.
I remember hearing that this song was real popular with the radio stations (what very few there were) in north Africa because neither side would bomb them! Lili Marleen A better voice - Lili Marlene by Vera Lynn In German |

^I know I should have some kind of WWII association when I hear Lili Marlene but it always makes me think of R.W.Fassbinder.
anyway.. Marcel Khalife! |

Now that reminds me a little of Ravi Shankar.
And with Alla Rakha Khan back in '69. That was the only time I went to Canada. |

^I guess you could say that Khalife is to Lebanon and the middle east, what Ravi is to India.
the Oud is a really cool instrument. |

[QUOTE=SameOldStory;1446540]Here's an interesting old song. Listen to the first 25 seconds of the first version to find the surprising origins of Lili Marlene.
To that I add June Tabor singing No Mans Land/Flowers of The Forest and June Tabor-The Band Played Waltzing Matilida |
