Romance appears to be one of the few of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct mysteries that isn't e-published by Amazon/Thomas & Mercer. As a result, I've not seen it drop to anything less than $2.99, which is where it is now, at both Kindle and Kobo US. (And, of course, if it were e-pubbed by Amazon, it wouldn't be at Kobo at all...)

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00287KD8W
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00287KD8W
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/romance-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
It's not a mystery, it's a story of survival and triumph. That's what some people say about Romance, a would-be hit play about an actress pursued by a knife-wielding stalker. But isn't it romantic! Before the show can open, the leading lady is really attacked, outside the theater. And before the detectives of the 87th can solve that crime, the same actress is stabbed again. This time for keeps. A.D.A. Nellie Brand moves in for a murder conviction, but Detective Steve Carella is sure she's got the wrong guy, and wrestles for the case with Fat Ollie Weeks, Isola's foulest cop. While Bert Kling interviews witnesses and suspects ranging from the show's producers to the author - who has written novels about cops and knows how it's done - to the lead's lovely understudy, he can't keep his mind off what's happening to him. He's falling in love. With a doctor. Who happens to be a deputy chief surgeon. Who happens to be a black woman. In the city of Isola, nothing is black and white. In the play Romance, no one is guilty or innocent. And in the gritty reality of the 87th Precinct, everyone is in love with something - even if it's only murder.

Another of those non-Amazon, non-Thomas & Mercer, 87th Precinct e-books by Ed McBain is Nocturne. It's on sale today for $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, and it's £2.49 at Kindle UK.

Just in case anybody thought the 47 earlier novels in the 87th precinct were a fluke, McBain's gone and revitalized the routine with Nocturne"". -- The New York Times Book Review

In Isola, the hours between midnight and dawn are usually a quiet time. But for 87th Precinct detectives Carella and Hawes, the murder of an old woman makes the wee hours anything but peaceful -- especially when they learn she was one of the greatest concert pianists of the century long vanished. Meanwhile 88th Precinct cop Fat Ollie Weeks has his own early morning nightmare: he's on the trail of three prep school boys and a crack dealer who spent the evening carving up a hooker.

In the new Joe Pickett thriller from C.J. Box, stories from the past spell danger in the present...

A day before Joe and Marybeth Pickett's girls come home for Thanksgiving, Joe is called out for a poaching incident that turns out to be something much more sinister: a local fishing guide has been brutally tortured and murdered.

Meanwhile, Marybeth opens a package at work and finds a photo album that belonged to an infamous Nazi. Wyoming soldiers were in the group who fought their way to Hitler's Eagle's Nest retreat in World War II – and one took the Führer's personal photo album. But who took the second book, and why reveal it now?

When another murder occurs, Joe and Marybeth face a race against time: how will they solve the mystery of the book before someone hurts them... or their girls?

Meanwhile, Joe's associate, falconer Nate Romanowski, hunts the man who attacked his wife. Even as he grasps the true threat his quarry presents, Nate swoops in for the kill – and a stunning final showdown.

Dear Little Corpses is out now, and on sale at Kindle UK for £0.99, probably for today only. The webpage indicates it's a Sunday Times Crime Book of the Month. (Sadly, the rest of the series is off-sale now...)

It takes a village to bury a child.

1 September, 1939. As the mass evacuation takes place across Britain, thousands of children leave London for the countryside, but when a little girl vanishes without trace, the reality of separation becomes more desperate and more deadly for those who love her.

In the chaos and uncertainty of war, Josephine struggles with the prospect of change. As a cloud of suspicion falls across the small Suffolk village she has come to love, the conflict becomes personal, and events take a dark and sinister turn.

'A class above the usual crime fiction.' Independent

Goldengirl is an early non-series title by Peter Lovesey, who is better known for his Peter Diamond series, and a couple of historical series, including one I really like featuring Albert Edward (Bertie), the Prince of Wales, as the protagonist. (Although apparently not too many folks liked it, since it only runs to three books .)

In any case, based on the blurb, Goldengirl is really different (sounds kind of like a Harlan Coben book), but it's free right now at Kindle US and UK, so you can try it, and then delete it if you don't like it!

Quote:
What happens when obsession takes over?

Owner of the Dryden Merchandising Empire, Jack Dryden, is invited to a weekend at a tennis ranch, owned by one of his clients, Dick Armitage.

Figuring the chance of meeting another star tennis player in need of an agent, Dryden clears his calendar.

Instead, he meets Goldengirl.

A track runner. Daughter of Armitage’s physiologist. Not what he was expecting at all.

Neither was he prepared for what was to come.

Adopted by Dr. Serafin and his wife at the age of three, Goldengirl was home-schooled and virtually segregated from children of her own age group.

Conditioned from an early age, and trained to within an inch of her life, Goldengirl’s focus is on one thing and one thing only: winning at the next Olympic games in Moscow.

Unknown as an athlete, Goldengirl sets out to shock the world. Following incredibly intense training, she tries out for the Olympics.

Dryden, initially sceptical, is finally convinced that Goldengirl does have the potential to deliver. Working against the Olympic games policy, Dryden agrees to act as Goldengirl’s agent, drumming up potential interest ahead of the games.

But Dryden is no fool. Convinced there’s a catch, and uncertain about the reasoning behind the other committee members’ interest, Dryden goes in search of the truth.

Surely there is more to Goldengirl’s story than meets the eye?

The Olympic games are fast approaching. Dryden needs to ensure his reputation is not put on the line, or eliminated altogether, on the back of a risk he takes…

Goldengirl is a tragic and intense thriller about loyalty and obsession.

Per its blurb, At the Scene of the Crime: Forensic Mysteries from Today's Best Writers looks to be pretty much what it says it is. It's on sale right now for $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Authors of the various stories are listed in the blurb below. Note that the cover says it's edited by Dana Stabenow, and the blurb says it's "collected" by Martin H Greenberg. I guess "editing" and "collecting" are two different things .

Max Allan Collins and Matthew Clemens
