I'm in between several books right now:
"A Perfect Stranger" by Jenna Ryan (Harlequin book)....meh

"The Bradford Map" by William Loring Andrew, a neat little book I came across when researching a map (the Bradford Map) online. It's about the first map published in New York (1729) and has a lot of neat information about the beginnings of New York and the formation of the town's layout. It's in public domain, and I recommend reading the PDF on your computer (it's short and has some great illustrations).

Also still working on "King Solomon's Mines" by H. Rider Haggard, which I'm heartily enjoying, and also have been reading an ARC I won on goodreads called "The Wave" by Susan Casey. It's interesting, but I'm having a hard time getting through it, since a majority of it is about surfing (I'm more interested in the rogues that sink ships and such).

Just reread Stephen King's UR. I came away from Coinstar with $65 in ebook money yesterday, so I'm going shopping for my next read.

I heard a bit of the an interview with the author last week, seemed really interesting. He says he wrote it partly because his daughter asked him to write a book where a 14-year-old girl saves the world.

I've got the sample on my K3 now.

Still on Green Mars. Bits of it are great, but the overall structure irritates me, and seems to be very slow and lumbering. I'm not sure I'll manage to finish it.

Comments from anyone who's read it? I'm probably about 1/3 of the way through Green Mars.

Know what I'd love to lay hands on again? Anthony Burgess' superb *Kingdom of the Wicked*. I can only find pirate ebook copies and won't touch those. Any ideas, chaps and chapettes? Cheers. Neil

Just finished The Lion by Nelson DeMille and didn't really care for it that much. DeMille's earlier books were excellent and he still does a good job creating really scary moments. In this one, he has a terrorist attacking the protagonist's wife while they are sky diving; a really pulse pounding scene. But DeMille has laced his last few books with lots of sarcastic humor that isn't all that entertaining.

So, on to Terry Prachett for a little light reading.

I slogged/crawled/persisted through Red Mars. Rested. Then, hoping things picked up, tried to read Green Mars - still slow & lumbering - as you point out. I gave up.

Just finished The Spirit Lens. I sincerely wish fantasy writers would pick another language than fake French to base their made-up words on. Or the character's names. Having the main character called "Doorman" was a bit unsettling. Other than that it was OK

Steve Aylett's "Lint", the fictional biography of a writer for the pulp magazines. I picked it up from the iPad app store (not the book store). It's very, very funny.

Finished The Purple Cloud last night- a good early post-apocalyptic tale, and now, thanks to Project Gutenberg om going to read something I never thought I would- The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Coleridge! Not a great lover of poetry but I've long wanted to give this epic a go (its in 7 parts!)

I've enjoyed every one I've read and still have three to go. BTW, I went to a Brad Thor book signing a couple of months ago and he signed the back of my eBook reader.

Guess what book I'm reading next with these words-"No-one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own...."
