With Kobo, both the kepub that downloads to their app and their devices and the regular epub downloaded from the website is DRM-free if that's how the publisher wants it.

eta: and you have 2 tools to free anything with DRM.

If you scroll to the botton it'll list EPUB 2 (Adobe DRM), even though it's normally sold without DRM.

The same with e.g. https://www.kobo.com/de/de/ebook/sta...wundete-himmel. Heyne requests books to be sold without DRM.

slightly off-topic, but today I get a long email from amazon about their amazon smile ( their donate to charity ) scheme
i wont post it all but TL-DR
"we cant afford to give money to charity anymore, say amazon"

i am this close to saying stuff your amazon prime, we'll shop elsewhere

we can surely live without free unlimited shipping of useless tat which mostly gets returned - because its useless

there's the vulnerability- the device has to go online to get the book, then A can update firmware and start sending KFX instead

KFX in all 40 variants is software based encryption ?, so almost any Kindle could run the decryption. Most users will not notice or case if the download takes a few seconds more to decrypt.

a recent change is that no borrowed book has the download and transfer option

and if u want to borrow books that are actually worth reading , use a public library

others have established that as soon as u actually buy the KU book you were only borrowing, it then becomes available for ....

I can't see any author accepting for a payment scheme like this. But if they do indeed go for this, that's their issue, not mine. I have no obligation to use a specific device to read on and allow it an internet connection just so an author can get paid. I pay my money for the book and Amazon takes that. If Amazon then does not pay the author unless I read the book, and only on an Amazon device connected to the internet, wow. Those authors should really take a hard look at the devil they crawled into bed with.

Looking at both of those listed on Amazon, they appear to have DRM there too. Don't know for certain, but no mention of unlimited devices that I usually see when they are DRM-free.

No, authors are only paid by page read for books borrowed through Amazon's subscription services -- Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading. Personally, I use these like full book "samples". If I get to the point where I'd really rather be using my Kobo, I'll buy it. Then the author is paid no matter if I actually read it or not.
