I changed a kindle book to pdf and then, using calibre, I converted it to epub and tried to send it to my jetbook. It goes, but when I try to open it on my reader I get a message that says the file is too large. I get this message whether I download it directly to my reader or to the sd card. There's enough room in either the reader or the card for this file, so I don't know what the problem is. Can anyone help?

I started to read through this thread to see if this had already been addressed, but I have to go to work soon. So please to forgive if this has been asked and answered already. If it has, maybe somebody could just provide the link.

TIA!

Speaking in Generalities here

Storage capacity (The SD card, Internal) is different than viewer program file size limitations.
Simply stated: Your single PDF file is too large for the PDF viewer to hold in working memory (RAM).

Totally confoozled.
PDF is an un-compressed format. They tend to be big

Okay, I've been digging around and I thought I saw a suggestion to convert the pdf first to pdb and then to epub - do I have that thought right? And if so, might that work?

I believe the best approach is to convert PDF to html and then to ePUB. I believe the conversion using the eReader converter also had an option to convert to html. At any rate converting to full eReader format will lose to much formatting data.

Why convert from Kindle to pdf? By Kindle, I assume you mean a .mobi file (or the equivalent). I'd try converting directly from that to epub in Calibre.

paragraph spacing LRF>EPUB

I see the Calibre conversion options for removing or adding blank lines between paragraphs during conversion LRF>EPUB.

But if I do not check either one, blank lines are added anyway.

What I am looking for is a way to leave the spacing exactly like it is in the original LRF. It seems that this should be the default. Or maybe I do not understand the complexities of the conversion process.

I do not do HTML. I have 300 books perfectly formatted as LRF that were done in Word and Book Designer. I would like to convert them to EPUB keeping the formatting as is.

Help is appreciated.

Can you recommend a good converter to convert PDF to HTML?
Thanks!

Try selecting the option remove spacing between paragraphs and see if that helps.

It isn't easy to convert PDF to anything else but there is a company call PDF solutions that has a converter. http://www.anypdftools.com/

The free Mobipocket Creator does a good job of converting PDF to HTML.

But then ALL blank lines are removed. That's not what I want. I want to keep the ones that are in the original --- and not add or delete any.

So, if at the beginning of a chapter there is an epigraph properly separated from what follows by a blank line, I want to keep the blank line. The rest should have no blank line between paragraphs.

This is the way I arranged it. Now I just want to MAINTAIN the layout when doing LRF>EPUB.

LRF to epub conversion is not perfect and will most likely never be fixed. One thing you can do is run the conversion making sure you go to the debug option and specify a folder. After you run the conversion go to the folder specified and you can see exactly what input you are feeding the converter.

Calibre doesn't add spaces it just interprets the html from the LRF file. It seems that the LRF file handles things a little differently then most.

Good luck.

I'll take a look. But something else about this does not make sense.

On the Look and Feel screen, I get the exact same results by selecting "insert blank line" as I do when selecting nothing.

I would think selecting nothing would keep the original spacing.
