While I was watching Birdman (which I did enjoy) I kept just wishing they would have shown the play version of "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love."

Short Cuts is a masterpiece. Robert Altman took nine Raymond Carver stories and one poem and a large ensemble cast and wove them together. It's three hours and I watched it and watched it again the next day. If you haven't seen Short Cuts, you really should.

Interestingly, the publisher put out a collection of the stories used to make the film and 25 years later the collection is still being published: Short Cuts by Raymond Carver

Birdman is very good. It won Oscars for best film, best director and best screenplay. Michael Keaton plays an Adam West analog trying to jump start his career by putting on a play based on Carver's What We Talk About When We Talk About Love.

I liked it a lot. A comparison of the two is unfair, but I prefer Short Cuts if I was forced to choose.

I already have this, but I'm still excited to see this listing from you so that more people can see it.

If one is tired of spaceships shaped like cigars and BEMs chasing naked blonde women over alien landscapes (not that there's anything wrong with these four things), and if anyone wants to read actual Literature, then Truman Capote is highly recommended.

Now, back to my blood, guts, and no-brains zombie novel.

I picked up the book, but I will admit that I haven't ever warmed-up to Truman Capote. I've read Other Voices, Other Rooms, The Grass Harp, In Cold Blood and Music for Chameleons.

Probably I should try Breakfast at Tiffany's. I love the film.

I haven't seen it in forever, but I suspect the cringeworthy aspects would take over for me now. Two words: Mickey Rooney.
