This is the first book in the Resident Evil series and is a novelization of the original game. I remember trying to read it years ago and honestly, it was terrible. But I'm not a fan of RE, so what do I know?

Hide and Seek by Jack Ketchum is $0.99 at Amazon US.

I've not yet read this one, but Ketchum is an author that should have been more widely read. His novel Off Season is terrific and The Girl Next Door is a book that I know will be good, but I just can't bring myself to read.

Stephen King loved him.

One Rainy Night by Richard Laymon is $0.99 at Amazon US.

I love Laymon, but this is not one of his best.

The strange black rain falls like a shroud on the small town of Bixby. It comes down in torrents, warm and unnatural. And as it falls, the town changes. One by one, the inhabitants fall prey to its horrifying effect. One by one, they become filled with hate and rage...and the need to kill.

Formerly friendly neighbors turn to crazed maniacs. A stranger at a gas station shoves a nozzle down a customer's throat and pulls the trigger. A soaking-wet line of movie-goers smashes its way into a theater to slaughter the people inside. A loving wife attacks her husband, still beating his head against the floor long after he's dead. As the rain falls, blood flows in the gutters—and terror runs through the streets.

I don't disagree. To be honest, there's a fine line between his good books and his bad ones. He always uses the same schlocky elements. What matters is how he uses them, I guess.

I might be badmouthing it, but I still picked it up for $0.99!

I'm pretty sure I read your review, if that link was the one used a few pages back when a number of us were talking about him. I agree that there's an uneven quality to his stories, but his narrative drive often moves the story along at a drunken pace.

I bought it a few years back and still haven't read it But I have liked the McCammon books I have read.

I recently read Stinger in March of this year and gave it 4/5 stars on goodreads. I really enjoy McCammon's writing style. The writing flows really well and I particularly like his characters. Within the last year I started with 'Swan Song', then 'Mine', and now lastly 'Stinger'. He has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I'm still listening to The Doors months after finishing Mine. LOL

A '70's horror novel, Nella Waits by Marlys Millhiser is $1.99 at Amazon US.

I've not read Marlys Millhiser before, but I love finding these old OOP horror novels back 'in print'. Looks like she wrote several horror novels in the '70's and then a couple of mystery novels. I've added her to my ereaderiq watchlist.
