You can already do that. Create a directory called "fonts" (NOTE: must be all in lower case) in the root directory and drop your new fonts in there and you're good to go. No way to delete defaults that I'm aware of though.

Question to those of you who tried downloading eBooks via the webbrowser, from gutenberg, org, dropbox or whereever - can you confirm my problem that the reader gets stuck on the screen "processing data" (meaning the book is being added to the library) or does it work smoothly?
Edit: I downgraded to fw 1.9.14 and now the downloads work fine... Advice on Fonts: If you can and have available, put at least the Roman / Regular, Italic, Bold and BoldItalic - Files in the folder, not only the Roman or Regular. Kobo uses them accordingly within the book which looks much nicer than the Reader trying to substitute that. A good free font to have in the collection, is Charis SIL, it provides the mentioned 4 Styles and is a slab serif font similar to Caecilia (which is not free) that is used on the Kindle. If you install the 4 Styles on the Kobo it will show only the font-family name in the list once, and use the styles automatically when needed. http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Charis-SIL Last edited by voom; 01-06-2012 at 09:59 AM. |

Yes, but the 6" display in landscape mode is perfect for comics. If I zoom in I, sometimes, have to scroll not only vertically but also horizontally, what I think is unneccesary for most of my comics. It also destroys the overall impression of half the hole page. Because sometimes there are only a few words overflowing the border. But the workaround is also o.k., but still not perfect for me.

To add my mobile router as a new Wifi-connection I had to deactivate my DSL-Router and press synchronize on the Kobo, because that seems to be the only way it will go and look for a new connection. Naturally, it synchronized after the Setup of the new network (naturally since that is what I pressed) - and downloaded the new firmware 1.9.16 instantly without asking / giving me a way to opt-out. (I just downgraded today to 1.9.14) Since it was installed anyway, I decided to check it out once more before downgrading again - and, miraculously, now most of the bugs I had experienced before with 1.9.16 are gone! touchscreen works, downloads via webbrowser work, no lags...
Her what is left for me for now as feature request / bugfix-request: * Choose default dictionary by language of Book / or last used setting / or give an extra option wwhich to use first -- dont set the interface-language as default for dictionaries! Naturally I would want to look up or translate words from books not in my native language! So if my interface-setting is german, and I read a german book, I would hardly need to look sth. up, but reading an English book I might need translations English-German or definitions for English words. * Ask me if I want an update of the firmware, don't force it upon me! * It has been discussed here, but I'll add my +1 anyway: better options for WiFi-Connections, I may want to just add a connection without having to sync to find it - and eventually end up with a firmware-update, I don't want to download at that time... * Also my +1 for user-defined categories / shelves and (maybe customizable) shortcuts on the home-screen (maybe a buttonbar at the bottom, where I can place the browser, go directly to searching the library etc.) * another +1 to PDF-Reflow or at least a more intuitive way to flip pages by scrolling down or tapping the bottom of a page. |

I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned already, but I'm dying for tags for my ebooks. Another thing that would be nice is an option to backup your settings or reading life, lets say if you want to do a factory reset and then reload your previous settings.

I hope this hasn't been mentioned yet, but I would like to be able to have the footer of the page show the total number of pages remaining in the book, rather than the pages remaining in the chapter. While the black bar is very helpful in showing how far you are through a book, it seems like there's no way to determine how many pages there are in a particular book, meaning you can't tell if you're reading a short story or "War and Peace".

@Ham: If you read books in ePub format (ie synced via ADE, or calibre, or direct drag and drop of a true ePub) rather than Kobo ePub (synced via WiFi or Kobo Desktop) you will see a display of pages in book; not in chapter.

Good tip, however I prefer to download books directly from Kobo in order to take advantage of the (still pretty shaky) syncing with iOS apps. A simple toggle, perhaps under "advanced options", would be a great help.

I don't know if this is related to the footnotes-navigation-bug, but I have been experimenting with different ways to set internal links in an ePub I am creating. If I just set a link to another page of the book (i.e. a different chapter or a glossary-entry or a footnote) and the linktarget exceeds 1 screen, I get so see the last page of that file and get no option to jump back to where I came from. But if I set an anchor in the targetpage at the top right under
like this: and link to the page including that anchor: linktext it works just fine - and I can jump back to where I came from in the bottom-menu where it automatically shows a Link "<--Back" That is exactly what should happen with a footnote I presume and if I collect the footnotes in one file and mark them with id-anchors that should also work fine. So maybe the problems with footnotes are due to malformed ePUBs rather than a bug in the Reader?

How to automatically continue where I left off on power up?
I have had my Touch since last summer and I like it a lot. But the one thing I find irksome is that my Touch always powers up on the Home screen. Then I invariably have to select the book that I was last reading. Why do I need to do this extra step? The vast majority of the time I want to go back to where I left off. Why can't I at least have this as an option? After-all, when it is powered off it shows the book that I am currently reading, so why go to the home page? Even if I were reading on multiple devices it could back to where I last left off and ask me if I wanted to go to some other bookmark.
I think there are a lot of good ideas that people are putting forth. Like organizing the library bookshelf. I would like to have the books I have finished reading on a different shelf, especially as my list is slowly growing. |

Is it also possible to then, in addition to this bug fix, add some sort of area in the touch screen to scroll vertically when being in landscape mode in CBZ, so you don't have to swish over the screen and just keep your finger on one place to scroll. For example the top left corner (when you activate landscape it is bottom left for scrolling then when you rotate - lefthand, has to be available for right handers too ofc). |
