Considering that sunspot activity has been abnormally low, that report is even more striking. Imagine what the climate would be like if the additional warming from sunspot activity were a factor.

Once upon a time three religious folks died and went to Hell. Once there, the following conversation ensued:
....."I don't know what you two are here for, but I'm a Catholic, and I got busted for eating meat instead of fish on Friday before the rule change." .....The second guy said, "Well, I'm a Baptist, and I'm here for dancing and playing cards. Those are major transgressions in my religion." .....The third guy said, "I'm a Christian Scientist." .....The Baptist asked, "What's that suppose to mean?" .....The Christian Scientist replied, "This place is not hot, and I am not here." H_T, you must be a Christian Scientist. The rest of us are roasting in this man-made hell! Last edited by WT Sharpe; 08-12-2010 at 10:23 AM. |

It helps to know a bit about the beliefs of Christian Scientists, the denomination founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879.
From the Religion Facts website: The fundamental distinctive teaching of Christian Science is that creation is entirely spiritual and perfect and matter does not exist. Sin, sickness and death also do not exist; we only think they do. "The only reality of sin, sickness, or death is the awful fact that unrealities seem real to human, erring belief, until God strips off their disguise" (Science and Health, 472:27-29). According to Christian Science, humans are subject to the laws of matter only so long as we believe they are real. So just as in The Matrix Neo could mentally bend a spoon by realizing "there is no spoon," so Christian Scientists can heal themselves spiritually by realizing illness does not exist. (Note: This is a ReligionFacts analogy, not a Christian Science one.) These core teachings are encapsulated in the "Scientific Statement of Being," which is read at every church service: .....There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. .....All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. .....Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. .....Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. .....Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. .....Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual. (S&H 468) ... Heaven and hell are states of mind. Heaven is "not a locality, but a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal" (Science and Health, 291:13-16). It is "Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by the divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul." (Science and Health, 587:25-27). Hell is "Mortal belief; error; lust; remorse; hatred; revenge; sin; sickness; death; suffering and self-destruction; self-imposed agony; effects of sin; that which 'worketh abomination or maketh a lie.'" (Science and Health, 588:1-4). Now that you have been properly prepped to enjoy the joke, did you laugh? ![]() Last edited by WT Sharpe; 08-12-2010 at 02:15 PM. |

2010: Cranking up the heat
NCAR scientists study a warming planet August 2, 2010 | NCAR’s pinprick of a foothold on the planet, Boulder, experienced a cool and snowy spring, but elsewhere on Earth, the mercury has been startlingly and consistently high during the first half of 2010. Warm temperatures have been present over most of the world, particularly eastern North America, parts of Asia, Eastern Europe, and equatorial Africa. By late June, seven countries in the Middle East and Africa had set new records for their all-time hottest temperatures...... Rest here: http://www2.ucar.edu/staffnotes/news/2010-cranking-heat |

Seriously, that report should be taken as a warning. They didn't pull those international statistics out of a hat somewhere. And these certainly aren't the kind of things that big oil or big oil's spokesman, Rupert Murdoch and his big business propaganda machine, desire to see become public knowledge. We need to begin letting the scientists themselves have more control over public policies that concern scientific findings instead of politicians dependent upon special interests for their very survival and an ill-informed public swayed to vote their own harm by the powerful and well-funded propaganda machines of the special interests. |
