I have the same problem as Strouty's. So my dpt-s1 freezes from time to time at the welcome screen with an orange blinking light. No other choice than to reset the device, which is pretty annoying. I don't think it has anything to do with charging the device with a computer or not, though.

Would appreciate it if anyone has a solution for that. |

Tips for using Sony DPT S1

Mobile read I ran through this thread, just wonder anyone can help to put a summary of tips for using this device. A. File transfer A1. Box.net will work with the following configuration: https://dav.box.com/dav port: 443 username/password sync folder / destination folder / Sometimes files take forever to show up in my device. I end up copy the files directly to $(DPT_S1 Drive):\network\dav A2. Files in microSD can not be edited or highlighted, any one knows why? B. Editing B1. Highlighting seems to hesitate every once a while. I found that by pressing the erasing button on pen, and then retry highlighting will do the trick. B2. Drawing a line will response faster B3. PDF file cropping: BRISS is awesome http://sourceforge.net/projects/briss/ I really wish I can use my iPhone kindle App for reading control but them display the content on this device. Is there anyway to do that. |

In case it is useful to anyone, I am providing the pdf conversions steps for the dpt-s1 that I have settled on. I read landscape with two columns (approximating a hardcover book), but do not like the wasted space of built in toolbar in two page view, so create a two column pdf for view in single page mode without any toolbars. It is a lot of steps, but takes about 2 minutes once you get the hang of it.

			1. Calibre – convert source file to rtf. Future steps are in word (converting to doc often doesn’t work properly which is why I convert to rtf). I actually convert to mobi and then from mobi to rtf which has made things 100% consistent, but I am not sure if this is necessary if I played around with my calibre rtf settings more. 2. Strip out the images by replacing all "^g" with "---" (optional but if you skip this you may need to resize some of the large images manually at the end). 3. Replace all the indented spaces with nothing and then use word ruler to indent how I like it - I do relatively small indents. 4. Make it all droid sans size 12 (works well for me - I tried the popular ebook fonts and like this one the best on dpt-s1, but this is personal). 5. Select all and give 1.2 multiple spacing and full justification. 6. Page layout orientation landscape. 7. Page layout margins top .16 bottom .02 sides .07 (don’t recall how I arrived at this - I think I just tried a few and liked how this looked so stuck with it). 8. Page layout Size 10.64 *7.98 (derived from pythagorean theorem with the aspect ratio and a 13.3 inch screen). 9. Page layout columns 2 10. Page layout column spacing .2 11. Insert page numbers bottom center - make the fields Page/NumPages and size it Calibri 10 (I wanted it a different text then the main and smaller). Delete the 2nd line so it is only 1 line. 12. Set header and footer from top and from bottom to 0. 13. There is usually an extra blank page at the end of the document which I delete. 14. Save as pdf. problem reading from SD card

Hi, my device seems to have difficulty reading from the SD card.

After formatting the SD card and transfer in the pdf, Sony can load the file. However, after a while for no reasons at all, it stops working, and displays "cannot display the file" or something like that, then all the directories (folders) in the SD card shows an empty list, though when opened in a computer, the files are all still there and completely readable. This essentially renders the SD card extension unusable since it's so unstable. Does anyone have the similar problem? Also, Sony seems to have problem reading some pdf's. These are just regular files with no protection DRM whatsoever, and with regular names. I opened them on the computer just fine. Seems like pdf reading is a hit and miss and has to be tested on an individual basis. Or am I missing something here? Thanks guys for the answers! |

Yes, currently only blue and red color available. sadly. Hope Sony will release an update and integrate standard black, too.

Firmware version 1.5.51.21130 was relased on 10/25/2016; unfortunately the description only says "This System Software update provides stability improvements." Did anyone try it out to and can comment on the changes?

The new firmware enhanced the zoom and page turn, I feel it's faster and more responsive now than before.

Honestly I can't feel/see any difference after the firmware update.

Btw: Somebody asked for pictures of the case that you can buy from the Sony Japan website. It's not from Sony, just a third party company and I can only say: Do not buy that crap! I nearly broke my DPT-S1 after trying to remove if from the case with it's extreme sticky adhesive. The case was damaged after removing the unit and I had to fix it. Last week I accidentally closed the case without my Sony inside and now the other side of the case is damaged, too, due to the adhesive. Wow, I should habe thrown those ~80 Euro into a nice family dinner steakhouse instead of that garbage case! Any recommendations for a good(!) and quality case? @T.W.G I can't base my comment on actual measurements, it just feels that page turn became more responsive.
