Personally I'm not too worried about the non-static IP issue, mine hardly changes and I wouldn't be hosting files for public use anyway.

When I got home last night I did some more messing around and I can confirm that at least where I live specifying a port in the web address other than 80 or 443 (ie website.com:5000) only works over wifi and not 3G. Maybe some folks from the US could ring in on this with their findings?

A lot of ISPs are locking out most ports on the consumer contracts, mostly due to trying to cut down on the rapid spreading of self-hosting worms/trojans.

That said, it'd be nice if the ISP let you explicitly open a port or two via a web-configuration (few do, most won't).

To my knowledge non of the ISP's in my area are blocking ports, I'm not even 100% sure it's being blocked on the 3G on my Kindle. It could be that the webkit browser is the culprit there. Until more people on various 3G providers try it we won't know for sure. Could someone from another region try this?
