Get an RMA number from Sony and have them repair the unit. It seems so far out of spec that it should be repaired or replaced under warrenty. This is a defect in materials as covered in the warrenty.

If I recall correctly, they've already replaced some bum batteries, so it oughtn't be a surprise to them ... I wouldn't expect them to even give you much trouble about it.

2,000 turns on a charge, what kind of file were you reading for the 500 a bar estimate? That's below average but really not that bad, what, 2 or 3 books per charge? I guess if Sony does offer to repair it, you'll have to balance the more often charging versus being without it for 2-4 weeks.

Oh, and I assume you fully charged off the wall, not USB, and kept it away from <60 degree cold? And I noticed you said you moved your books off the card, did you remove the card completely or leave it in?

Actually, I think there's something else going on here - batteries nowadays drain themselves over time - i.e. leave a rechargable AA battery out for a few weeks, and it'd be down to 50% or less.. The battery on the sony reader might just be draining as well.

My personal experience is that I lose my first battery bar after one book - but then it hovers around the 2-3 bar mark until I cave in and recharge it.

I've been reading the Sony Connect books, and I've also read some .rtf books, no .pdf eaither.

I only charge from the wall, and it's perfect weather where I am the moment, and not hot one bit.

I also removed the card, and stored it inside my printer.

What is the time frame limit on returning or getting an RMA with this device?
