I saw a demo movie of the touch screen that sold me on the Sony.
But mostly it came down to aesthetics: Kindle has too many buttons, doesn't come in colors, looks more plasticky. |

I've never owned a Kindle, but may I make another argument in favor of Sony, apart from the 'locked-in' nature of the Kindle eco-system? Sturdiness. I fell on concrete while carrying my 505, and found myself far more worried about my reader than about myself (although I was injured enough that I had to go home from work for the afternoon). The reader was fine - a very slight, almost unnoticeable ding in the plastic strip on the top. Now when I drop it, I have no cares because I know the reader is sturdy enough to take it. If I had a plastic reader - nook, Kindle, etc - I'd be constantly worried about it. Because it will be dropped from time to time, it's the nature of gravity. |

You're right about the sturdiness. I held a Cybook Opus in my hand at a store once, and it really doesn't compare to my Sony. Until a few days ago I had no idea the Kindle ships internationally so I didn't even consider it. But now, my gadget-itch is playing up again
![]() Ah well, maybe I'll get myself a Kindle for Christmas ![]() ![]() Quote:

surely you could gently prise the plastic spine from the sony cover and glue it on the Oberon, then it would fit perfectly.........

Probably so, but Marcy had expressed concern about the security and stability of the velcro approach and it seemed to me that glueing the spine into the Oberon Design cover would be equally unstable, so I offered her an alternative I thought would alleviate all concerns about the stability of a modified Oberon Design cover. Also, with my approach it would be possible later on to easily remove the Sony cover parts from the Oberon Design cover and either replace them with the appropriate parts for a newer ereader or return the Oberon Design cover to function as a journal. Best of all, this approach does no damage to the Oberon Design journal cover.

Funny you should mention this. I've been thinking of using velcro to stick the spine from a sony cover into an Oberon cover. Somehow I think velcro might stick better than just gluing the spine down.
