What I want to know is how many other readers could survive that abysmal treatment with an intact screen?

Course, the Kindle 3 has 4 GB memory and 3.x GB is available for user files. a typical .azw book is 700 kb ... that's 4500 books. If I read 60 books a year, the Kindle will die long before I get through such a library ... in fact, so will I.

I have an SD card in my Kobo; I've never understood the attraction of one for the average consumer reading .azw or .epub content. It just seems something else to manage, and break.

NOT having an SD card is a feature, not a bug.

Went out today; Best Buy had a display with the Sony readers (old models, not the new ones); a display with the Nook - two units on it, one had a low-battery message on it; and a Kindle display unit with the new Kindle on it, but no Kindles for sale. No Kindle accessories either, from what I could see. The salesperson said they're supposed to be getting Kindles in on October 16.

Went to Target; they had the old Kindle on display, with a shelf of clearance accessories, and old Sonys on display. The sign said the new Kindles were supposed to be in stock in early September, but that was it.

Both of these stores are in Salem, NH.

I went to our local Target and BB. Target finally had the K3 out on display, along with a ton of clearance K2 covers, but no listed price or information on when it would be in stock. In fact, there was no information at all, just the unit. They also had the Sony display with the two old units, but no actual stock of either. They did finally put the wall charger on clearance, for $5 off.

BB had the nook on display, two units, on one side of a free standing display unit, with assorted covers and lights on the other side. Sony had the three old units on another freestanding display, and had two 300s, and some 300 covers. The other side was blank, I'm assuming for the coming K3s, but since I couldn't get anyone to talk to me I don't know. I was ignored completely, while they walked past me trying to get their attention and asked a man if he needed anything. Was I invisible and in a cone of silence?

Mrscoach, I have frequently noticed the very poor customer service at Best Buy. They are obviously low-wage workers who don't work on commission and couldn't care at all about their customers. Thanks for letting me know what you saw; I'm still waiting to check out an actual working Kindle, and perhaps buy one that I can put my hands on.

The Target I went to had the K3 but the info on the display was still about the K2. They had the White 3G/WIFi and the Graphite WiFi only. They also had the lighted covers.

Same here. Though I hesitate to tar an entire chain based on a small sample, I have had some really poor experiences with customer service at Best Buy and do tend to avoid shopping there.

I was interested in picking up a new cover for my 300 on clearance, and see what readers they had on display. That's why I went to BB. I actually prefer the BB where my son lives, but it is a 2 hour drive, so I don't get there often.

The thing was, I was actively trying to get their attention, right down to saying "Excuse me" and "Can you tell me...?" when the workers walked right past me. I don't know if it was because I was dressed very scrungily in sweats, or that I am a woman, or that the man they walked up to was looking at phones, but it was as if I wasn't even there. I just say loud enough for everyone to hear in situations like that "Well I guess you don't want to make any sales to me" and then, as I walk out the front door inform them that I was ignored while in the store.

I have to agree with the above posters for my store also.

Very poor CS....the only person that acknowledges you is the one that says "welcome to Best Buy" as you walk in the store.
