Palm Pres are sold by other telecoms in Europe. I know O2 is one. I'm not sure about others. You really just need a phone that can generate a wifi HotSpot. Check your local telecoms to see what's available.

If you have a nokia (symbian) or windows mobile phone, this is a really solid choice IMO.

Unfortunately, joikuspot for windows is really WMFRouter and is a peer-to-peer and will not work with the Kindle3.

I tried Mywi on a jailbroken iphoned 4 and it didn't work. Kindle says it's a Unsupported Wifi network.

Is that the hotspot app that came with the 2.2 update?

Joikuspot vs. Android 2.2

So I can also confirm that tethering the Kindle 3 works fine with my Android 2.2 device via Wifi but it does NOT work with Joiukspot via my Symbian device. So what exactly is - technically speaking - the difference between these two kind of Wifi hotspots? Is it possible to "tweak" Joikuspot and/or the Kindle 3 so that I can tether successfully?

Some Android devices (& Palm Pres) support infrastructure mode wifi (which is awesome). The majority of hotspot programs like wmwifi router on winmo and mywi on iphone only support the adhoc connection

VZW MiFi 2200

I use my Verizon Wireless MiFi 2200 all over the place ... for the Kindle3 as well as for my presentations (projector, computer, and 3rd gen 32GB iPod touch at all interconnected, as I control the presentation with my touch. Has not failed me yet.

Can I assume that the VW (Verizon Wireless, not VolksWagen) is a Droid? How do you run a presentation on a projector from it? Would love to be able to do that. The puters in the classroom are hopeless and about my age (assuming one computer years is seven human years, kind of like dogs). I would need to find out the IP number for the projector, right?

No, you may not (grin). The Verizon Wireless MiFi 2200 is a small wi-fi "hot spot," allowing owners to connect up to five devices to their system.

>> ... How do you run a presentation on a projector from it?

I connect my MacBook Pro to the WiFi network. I connect my iPod touch to the WiFi network. And run the presentation with a free Apple presentation program from iTunes. The program on my touch allows a "dual screen" mode - where it shows the current screen, plus the next screen. A swipe of a finger on the touch advances the presentation.

>> ... I would need to find out the IP number for the projector, right?

My Hitachi CP-X2 projector connects painlessly to my system ... I do not remember any hassles getting them all connected.
