Well I love mine. It is currently hacked but even if it wasn’t I would still love it. As an ereader it is fine though agree that Aldiko is better. The Nook is much better as an ereader but if you want an all around device the Novel is great. The two major complaints I have is the wifi is a little erratic ad the Novel wakes up from sleep on its own. But none of that affects it as an ereader.

The open version is just for the modding community to have a baseline without the software clutter ie no Pandigital specific apps.

Gingerbread refers to version 3 of Android however I haven’t read anything about it in conjunction with the Novel.

does this mean I wouldn't need to hack it?
It seems to be so basic that the current reader apps don't work on it (kindle, BN etc) as is.

The gingerbread version of android is supposed to be designed more for tablets. The supposed required specs would not allow the Novel to be updated to this version.

The Novel can read almost any format once it is hacked. I say 'almost' only because if I said "every" or "any" I'm sure someone would point out some obscure format that there is no android app for. You should read this thread from the slatedroid site:
http://www.slatedroid.com/pandigital...verything.html

You have a lot of questions about the Novel. The PDN wiki at slatedroid is a must read if you are thinking of getting one.
http://www.slatedroid.com/wiki/index...ndigital_Novel

I love my WPDN and have none of the complaints others have posted here. If you decide to get one I would definitely recommend the W(hite) P(an) D(igital) N(ovel).

Please note that though the Black unit came out after the white unit the software at least is inferior to the white version. Also it is harder to hack and even then many apps don't work on it due to the inferior software. This according to slatedroid.

I am not familiar with the ebookwise however you have definitely more storage with the Novel. As I said before too if all yo want is an ereader then the Nook or Kindle are definitely better.

Regarding the other formats the Novel can use the kindle app, the built in BN app (not sure of the the standalone BN app), Aldiko app any others. Reads epub and PDF. Regarding ereader (.pdb) I am not sure. Please check the wiki at slatedroid as it may have that info or there may be people trying to get it to work.

Post #60 is the same as post #8. Does this happen often?
I've had the feeling when reading longer threads that things get repeated, but I just didn't bother to check.
