I would add: arrival 3 weeks before the launch date.

I would really like a touch screen too, as long as it doesnt mess too much with the contrast. Also, some kind of a folders option and a notepad.

I DIDN'T BUY A KINDLE TO HAVE ANOTHER MULTIFUNCTIONAL DEVICE!!! If I want email, word processing, videos, etc...I have PLENTY of other devices for those apps. I wanted to read! No other device I have gives me the comfortable reading experience I need like my Kindle. No doubt other devices will come along and use e-ink displays. But I hope we will always have access to a simple, limited-function device that does only one (or a couple of related) thing(s) extremely well.

Better typography and layout would be good.

Although I am yet to recieve the sacred grail of my Kindle 3, I too share the sentiments of this post. If I wanted to do all these things I would buy a netbook or laptop or iPad (*spit*) or other tablet. I can do all the things listed above on my phone/pc/laptop/HTPC/DVR but none of them I believe provides me with what the Kindle will.........which is a proper electronic reader. Design concerns, and buttons I can accept but larger RAM, fast processors and all that jazz not for me for this machine.

How do optional features, that you don't have to download, use or even see, detract from your reading experience?

Carl, I don't believe the suggestion is that they detract from the reading experience, for me it would be the cost they would add to the equipment, thereby pricing the unit out of my range for what purpose other than to make it more like a tablet that you can read off.

For me the Kindle is keenly priced, and does what I need it to in the main.

If as others have suggested the method that books are indexed/stored is frustrating then yes I'd like to see a method of improving that, but wouldn't want a solution that meant we ended up with Oracle on the thing to manage it.

More options = more electronics and more R&D = more expensive.

I bought a Kindle, not an ipad wannabe

Well, I can see that, yes. However, I have seen the claim made that even having optional features available somehow diminishes the Kindle as a reader. It wasn't on this forum, and I don't pretend to understand how that works, but I've seen it more than once.

That said, I don't want the Kindle turned into a multi-purpose clone of the iPad either. But we're really talking about optional software addons here, which should never impact the price or performance of the Kindle at all.
