I couldn't resist giving this a try.
Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett: Estragon: "Nothing to be done, so, yes, let's go." (nobody moves) Twelfth Night, or What You Will by William Shakespeare: Duke: "If music be the food of love, our play is done and we'll strive to please you every day." Demian by Hermann Hesse: I cannot tell my story without reaching a long way back but sometimes when I find the key and climb deep into myself where the images of fate lie aslumber in the dark mirror, I need only bend over that dark mirror to behold my own image, now completely resembling him, my brother, my master. (perhaps about the author having a blockage?) 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke: The drought had lasted now for ten million years but he would think of something. (my favourite) The Razor's Edge by W. Somerset Maugham: I have never begun a novel with more misgiving so perhaps my ending is not so unsatisfactory after all. From "Red" by Jack Ketchum
"The old man looked at the dog looking at him. Embraced by him, the dog slept on." From "The Passenger" (novella) by Jack Ketchum "It wasn't the best of days even before her car died. 'But that can wait for now,' she said, 'can't it?'" |

Thucydides History of the Peloponnesian War (translated by myself from Italian
![]() Athenian Thucydides has told (that)* with the end of the winter, that followed to this summer**, also the 21st year of the war ended. *That "(that)" has been recently found in a dormant anonymous account in a bank just few ks north of where I live. Not in Italy ** time travel ? inadvertently revealed ? ![]() |

Homerus, Iliades, (Carefully translated by yours truly, with commentary)
Chant, oh Goddess, the fatal anger of Achilles, on foot, and the burial of Hector, horse tamer. They could not agree on some details of a deal, I imagine. Hector, with a name like that, could well be from South of the Border. May be he belonged to one of those cartels. In the story's sequel there is reference to a wooden horse filled with illegals, Robert Crumb must know all the details, but he never comes on MR. Last edited by beppe; 07-31-2010 at 04:31 AM. |
