I agree the save to disk icon looks very much like a hard drive.

They make the best refrigerator magnets, I must have at least 8 currently on my fridge.

So that's what it's supposed to be.

I didn't think of that, and I recently packed up 14 disembodied hard drives for the move.

I bought a few super-magnets at a local electronics surplus place. I've found they make more practical refrigerator magnets if you wrap a piece of duct tape around them to make a little tab so you can get the darn things off when you want to. Otherwise, you're left trying to slide them to the edge of the door, leaving little scrapes in the paint all the way.

Updated this morning and saw the new icons. Since I rarely use Calibre (I don't add books everyday or fiddle with my libarary), I don't remember what the original icons were but I believe they were easier to interpret than the new ones.

Couple of comments:
- They are not uniform in style, eg. "Add Book" versus "View".
- "Edit Metadata" icon - if it's a "i", I would refer it to "View information" and not "Edit".
- Probably not a good picture for "Convert book". It also looks almost the same as that "Recycle" button (which happens to be "Remove book"!!) - Perhaps a trash can would be a better choice?
- And fetch news icon ... how about a newspaper?

Just some thoughts.

I love the new look overall. I also love the new icon (by the way.) My only critique is the design of the "remove books" icon. It's like a recycling symbol which, to me, implies something much less permanent than what actually happens when you remove a book from Calibre. Also it implies to me that I can find the removed book in the recycle folder.

The space on the drive is reused

In Windows, you can - the deleted book folder is in the recycle bin (but not the metadata). I'm not sure of other OS's.

I icons are quite nice. Some of them are not readily intuitive to me, but I'll learn them quickly.

Having been w/out a functioning modem for over a month, I've spent a lot of time organizing my books. Calibre/Kovid....wow!....what can I say laudatory that hasn't been said?

I like the new icons, but am not too crazy about the yellow line around the main window that showed up in recent versions.

That yellow line is a grab-bar to open something, for example the book information pane or the tag browser. I agree, the color is perhaps not the most visually appealing, but *something* needs to be there to indicate that the border is somehow different at that point on the screen.

Ahh, perhaps it could be an animated curvy arrow that every 10 seconds appears and flies to the boundary bar, then blinks twice.

Did you notice that most of the likers are nothing but I-do-not-care types?
The not likers ussually would provide some explanation/sugestion whereas the
likers would go like: I love calibre so much that I'm blind ...

Good. That's what the poll is for - to see who likes them and who doesn't.

Did you notice that Kovid has decided to make the icons totally customizable by end user so this discussion is mute.

After the debate has effectively ended you decided to personally deride the motivations of those participating in the discussion. Two thumbs up!

I voted that I don't care although it's hard for me to distinguish between that and the "I have better things to do…". To tell you the truth, I do have better things to do, such as use Calibre It's an awesome tool and it does almost everything I'd like it to do, so as long as icons do not prevent me from using Calibre to do all those things (and they don't), I don't care what they look like.
