I love my Kobo ~ really I do, but I'm about to go back to paper books.
I had an original 1.0 version, did a 5-hour trip to have it flashed to its factory settings, then used an SD card so very kindly made available to me by an MR member for the 1.4 update as I am so clueless with tech stuff. Reloaded all my purchased books, bought new books, used ADE, good battery life, zinging along feeling great about the way my Kobo was now faultlessly functioning. Now the right page turn clicker is separating. I am so disappointed I feel like crying. The nearest Borders is a whole day trip for me - then I will have to go through the whole recognition/registration thing and thinking about it makes my head hurt. I know most of you don't take kindly to bitchin' posts - but I feel like crying right now!! |

There is another option for you to consider, if you do not want to go through another replacement and that is to get your money back and buy a Kindle or a PRS-350.
The good thing about the Kobo is that it is locally supported, unlike the Kindle and other ereaders. You could also organise (if allowable by the store staff) to mail the Kobo back to the store and they can mail a replacement back to you. |

point taken taming.
@ sabredog ... I will try to recover from my disappointment and then perhaps go back to the Borders in Melbourne Central - the staff there were really fantastic & supportive. I would also get to see my DD2 - an added bonus. I just need to have a tantrum though to make me feel better! LOL |

I've had my Kobo for a few months now and haven't had any problems at all. Pre or post firmware upgrade. Also, I loooooooooove my Kobo and convinced my co-worker to get one too - he loves his and hasn't had any problems either.
Just wish I could borrow ebooks from my friends, but that's a DRM thing. |

![]() Glad you are feeling better. And hi Steve--I know you love your new Sony 650--I looked at it too but like Kobo-land waaaay too much to buy a reader that costs $100 more and has terrible support in Canada. It looks like Sony really stepped up in year 3 of manufacturing. |

I paid AU$180 for my PRS-300 about 9 months ago. Just purchased another for my middle daughter. the Sony ereaders are pretty good!
So far my Kobo is performing very well indeed |

I've got that problem too. I noticed a bit of a tacky sound on my blue button a few months ago, but now I can move my finger in a circular motion over the blue button and hear a quite audible crackling sound. The adhesive under the blue button appears to have gone away. :-(
I haven't had any other problems with my Kobo, so I've been holding off on a warranty claim, but now I think I need to make one. Hope the replacement isn't a melon. |

My first one didn't work, but I took it back straight away and got a replacement and the new one works perfectly well. I read on public transport, in bed, anywhere else I can get a few spare minutes. I have loaded lots of books on it and even some I did myself. One of the first self made ones gave it "indigestion" but after removing and tweaking it now works. Subsequent efforts worked really well. Not a perfect device but cheap and does the job.

I haven't had any problems with my Kob EReader. Bought it in May. Updated the firmware. Messed around with the 100 free books and got rid of them on purpose. I am sort of a techno geek. I am happy with the Kobo EReader. It does what it suppose to do.
Cheers |

2 Kobos and haven't had an issue till now; the black one seems to have warped slightly... so the case will occasionally make a small 'cracking' sound if you grip it a bit harder than normal and the seams of the reader seem to be seperating slightly.
It is plastic, so not to be unexpected. Still works fine and doesn't effect reading though. |
