I was recently tipped about the Lattice by thinkpadx here. I'll get that or the Adam, whatever comes out first. But the homepage looked a bit suspicious, with spelling errors ("Physicial") and processor listed as optional... And there's not really much to read about that tablet on the web. I've only found a handful of pages with scetchy info like "by September" and a price of up to $550. Does anybody know how far in the process this unit is?

1) 1.66 GHz Atom N450 (High-Performance; Low-power system on a chip); 2) 800 MHz Freescale i.MX515 Which is probably why the "optional" is there... Also, they are not native English speakers, mistakes like that "Physicial" are easily made. |

I know they aren't, but it's an error I spotted at once, and I'm not a native English speaker either. I'm so used to companies with errors on their webpages, especially on the prominent features (and this is the main paige for the Lattice) signaling that you should watch out. Of course with features like those I'd really love to be proven wrong, especially if it happens by September! Then again that should give them only two weeks if I understand "by September" correctly to mean "before September". Or does that mean some time before the end of September? The processor I understand now, I had another understanding of the word "optional" (like you choose if you want a processor).

They said: October!!!
Give them a break, they are engineers. A lot of Taiwanese companies are Small & Medium enterprises that has a lot of technicians, engineers, and a lot of ambitions/visions. They invent things and solve problems, and totally without PR skills. And they don't waste money hiring people just to correct spelling. If you check out their web-site, they put things together as a solution package (hardware/device/... for B2B purposes). If you have any question, ask them directly (they usually don't talk to consumer directly --my impression through that one phone-call, they prefer to talk to business partners, distributors, etc.). I (the consumer and expressed as one) got the direct answer through one phone-call because I was polite and to the point. I'm not interested in Lattice, so didn't even ask about it. The info is about Papyrus only. But I believe they will definitely produce and sell Lattice, because Taiwanese prefer to buy tablets than E-Readers, and they get more orders selling Lattice than Papyrus in Asian market. BTW, optional means they give you a choice between different type of processors and operation system, so you can choose a slower processors and less expensive OS and pay a cheaper price..... I don't think they will sell you devices and ask you to install the processor by yourself. If you have any doubt, just make sure everything is as specified by you before paying for them. I forgot to ask the price for Papyrus or Lattice and will just wait and see....... Last edited by hch568; 08-16-2010 at 09:07 AM. |

Send them email and ask the question directly (someone got the direct email reply -- again, check this thread, will you?)
I asked them directly today, and they told me "the first week of October" (check my post in this thread)! But I was asking about Papyrus, not Lattice. I will not be surprised that these two will come out together, because tablet will be the major attraction if they want to be noticed. Bad news for people situated outside of Taiwan: they will sell them in Taiwan first (the first week of October). I will take the train to see the devices myself when they come out. :-) |

OK, I give in! I will try to mail them and here's my mail:

Edit: They did! It took only 15 minutes. I'm impressed. Especially since they appreciated the mention of the typo and corrected that at once! As for the release date they would put up the schedule on the website later. So I'm left wondering, but at least I like their attitude a lot. ![]() Last edited by Mastiff; 08-16-2010 at 10:20 AM. |

I'm glad and happy that you got the reply in such a late hour in Taiwan (about 10PM here). I think engineers work all day and all night.
![]() BTW, you got me interested in Lattice. I'll save from this hour on, hopefully I'll have enough money to get both of them. ![]() |

Well, I don't know about engineers but it does at least seem like company presidents do! Myself I need a tablet for websurfing and a reader for proof reading. And I want them to be the same box, so Lattice is my bet in this.

Well i have been in touch with them and I can share some things but pricing I cant divulge due to an NDA.
Lattice will ship to resellers with a choice of either the ARM processor or the Intel processor. That choice will also affect what OS is driving it. With the ARM units its possible to have Android 2.x, Unbuntu netbook remix or Meego. With the Intel processor the reseller will have achoice of Chrome OS (instead of Android) Unbuntu remix, Meeego or Windows 7. Papyrus will be running Android 2.x and have 3g . I have my order in for a sample of each device. October seems about right for sales to begin. I cant say for certain we will be a reseller but they do look like they will be very interesting devices. Price? Don't care much. They have to be competitive, so I will be able to afford it easily. I would really love the Windows 7 version since I'm a Windows user on just about antything else (phone, server, computers), but of course that depends on W7 working well as a tablet OS. I'm not convinced about that yet. If not I'm thinking Ubuntu, I really don't like Chrome at all. Far to webcentric.
And of course getting it from Oregon or Taiwan doesn't really matter much to me, I'd buy it from Wonderland if the shipping was easy... ![]() |

Hi all, I'm new here, but I just wanted to ask something. I wrote an email to Innoversal as well and got a reply on the 16th of August saying that the release date for the Lattice would be "soon in end of August" (a direct quote from the email)... and I'm reading here that a lot of you are saying it will be in October... I'm just trying to figure out what the time frame really is.

Still waiting on a sample order form and formal quotes... It's difficult to remain professional and polite when things take forever to turn around and there is such interest.

cbone, that's the way it is. I spent several months waiting for the Que, with new delays and dates every month, before I gave that up and started waiting for the Adam instead. Of course the Que got cancelled at the end, so that was in vain. Now I'm waiting for the Lattice and the Adam. I belive a release date when I have the item in my sweaty, shivering hand. And to me it's actually a bit better with "we'll post it on the website when it's ready for preordering" than "you'll have it in March...eh...April...eh...May (17th of May, Norway's national day, was one of the dates they set for the Que) ...eh... June...eh...this fall...eh, we cancelled it!"
Like I said in a previous post I'll probably get the first usable tablet that comes out with a PixelQi screen no matter what operating system it's running. |
