Don't get me wrong, I just re-purchased a DX because of the new price point. It is a wonderful piece of hardware. I sold my first one last year, however, because so much of what I wanted to read was available in e-edition at the libraries I use in Vegas and DC.

Will there not be a point at which consumers will ask, Why should I pay Amazon or one of the other retailers for a book that I can get for free at my library?
Well, my local library doesn't even know what an ebook is, much less support or stock them.

Libraries will have a limited number of copies of ebooks, and when those are all on loan, everyone else has to wait just as they would for pbooks, so in that sense library ebooks shouldn't kill bookseller sales anymore than library pbooks.

But I think you make a good point. To the extent that ebook purchasers don't view ebooks as equivalent to pbooks (due to DRM), they may view library ebooks as a good substitute for an owned ebook purchase, while they may not have felt the same way about library pbooks vis a vis owned pbooks.
