This is fine, but the last time I checked you can't use Calibre to purchase books through the Sony bookstore. I'd rather not run any Sony software on my PC, but the Reader Library is not replaceable at this time IMHO.

(BTW this did NOT work for me - I'll be calling them later today)

Fails to Launch process Windows Vista and Windows 7:
1. Go to your desktop and do a right click on the taskbar ( at the bottom ) and select Task Manager
- In the task manager window select the Processes tab
- End the process for each Reader Library listed that you see Close the task manager

2. Go to My Computer
- Open the local disk C:
- At the upper left corner click where it says Organize
- Select Folder and Search options
- In the window that pop up select the View tab
- Make sure that the option Hidden files and folders is enable
- Select apply and then ok

3. Go back to the local disc C:
- Open the folder that says Program Data
- Delete the Folder that says Kinoma

4. Go back to the local disk C:
- Open the Users folder
- Locate your user folder and open it
- Open the AppData folder
- Open the Local Folder
- Delete Kinoma and Sony Corporation folders

5. Try to open the Reader Library again.

6. When the Reader Library finally open click on Library at the left hand side, if you don't see your books please click on this link and follow the steps to redownload your books:

If this information does not resolve your issue, please contact us at (866) 962-7669.

I hope this helps someone else. I'll document any further steps they give me as I troubleshoot further.

Thanks for posting this reply from Sony. It fixed my issue with the software.

Well, my most current issue with the software. The first time my antivirus (gotta love McAfee) was blocking the install from fully installing (coincidently, it also blocks Microsoft Silverlight from installing correctly. something about plug-ins I do believe). I had installed/uninstialled/clean uninstalled/reinstalled about ten times before I figured out what McAfee was doing (as it didn't bother telling me it was blocking something).

After I finally got it installed without McAfee's interference I found that it still wouldn't open. More clean uninstalling/reinstalling. Lots of internet searching. Finally this solution you posted seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

Here's another one...
Call Sony ? Where ? I'm in the Netherlands.
Yeah, Sony Ereader Library is an ergonomic nightmare.
Took me a long while to figure out "categories".
Really obscure syncing.
I'm not at all sure it would update my PC if I put an ebook on the reader from some other PC by just copying.
And I should be sure...

You are unfortunately stuck with the task of stripping your system down to it's essentials and determining what is causing your problems I outline the process earlier in this thread HERE. It's a pain, requiring a lot of reboots, but you can easily just turn off all of your startups by using MSCONFIG and see if it works (you can also start in Safe Mode). If it does, you need to add startups back into your system until it fails (this requires you to use MSCONFIG). This won't fix your problem, but you may be able to find a work around once you know the cause.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled X 2 and cannot get any help from Sony

Sony support/help was nothing of the kind!

the solution was actually posted by grahamhopper on the "social answers microsoft" website. the following worked for me with no problems; XP machine:

"using windows xp and found that changing C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Sony Corporation to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Sony Corporation old did the trick straight off. Cant see why though."

I can see why. Because something was corrupted in the Sony Corporation directory and by renaming it, Reader Library had to rebuild it.

There is I performed one update for Reader Librarian, never again. I ended up doing a clean install, plus reauthorization of ADE, good thing I had backups of all of my books, I had to relist them as well, so I don't do ANY updates with this software

Can anyone help with the same problem that everyone above seems to be having with the latest update but on a Mac.

I updated but it won't open the Reader Library correctly, the Reader Library appears in the top left corner but window doesn't open and there is no File, Edit etc at the top of the screen.

I have tried repeatedly installing the download but the same thing happens each time.

I have contacted Sony but when they hear it is a Mac they don't want to know, they told me they would have to further the enquiry and someone would email, which they did a week later and told me to reinstall the download????!!!!!!

Has anyone had the same problem and found a solution?

Thanks

Kim

Is probably what you are talking about. I believe it does a full uninstall and cleanup. Then it does a reinstall.

Thank you so much. I had the same problem, it worked. You saved me lots of time and frustration.

This worked for me, using Win XP. Thank you very much! It wiped my library, but fortunately it was backed up on my Reader device. After that disastrous software update, everything's now working just fine again.
