Was just at the Chapters @ Kennedy and 401 in Toronto (Kennedy Commons). Picked up two black cases.

Padded interior; nice fit for the Kobo.

Any concern about it depressing any of the buttons or do you power off when you put it in the case?

Frankly no concerns; there seems to be some space around the edge so I think the side mounted buttons should be fine. It's not that snug that it will press the directional pad either.

Picked up a black cover for my black reader and another turquoise one for my wife's white Kobo from Chapters in Ancaster. The leather feels nice and 100% real (the store lady kept sniffing them).
No problem with the side buttons just that Power is uncovered at all times. Will travel soon so I'll put it in my hand luggage and see if any keys will get pressed accidentally.
Overall very good quality for a pouch, a bit pricey but it's leather and also made by Roots, worth if you want to protect the reader. I'm curious as everybody if a journal cover will ever come out.

Edit - it would have been nice if they had a cover colour to match the blue band-aid on the white reader

Picked up my black Roots Kobo cover tonight at Bay and Bloor..only two colours were available. High quality leather cover that you would expect from Roots. Matches my black Roots backpack

I think it's not right that not all stores have the covers yet. I'm in Burlington and have to wait unitl next week or drive to Ancaster.

I'd check with the Burlington store and see how many they'll get of each colour.
I'm in Hamilton and had to drive to Ancaster because the Indigo I usually shop at (Stoney Creek) told me they'll only get the black ones. Also the quantities are different, Ancaster got 20 black and 6 of each colour.

My wonderful husband ordered a black one through the store and they're supposed to call him when it's ready. I don't know if I can wait much longer though. It needs protection from my clumsiness.

Not right? You mean morally right? That's odd.

Anywhat, what's up with these covers? They look like they're just pouches - they don't seem very functional to me. Does anyone know if we can expect a book cover-style cover in the near future?

I think that ALL stores should have them at the same time.

Don't you think that's up to the company? If there were 100 people who want them in Toronto, and 1 person who wants them in Burlington, it wouldn't make good business sense to send 50 to Toronto and 50 to Burlington, would it?

Actually, they were sold out of readers within 48 hours of the release of the white and black ones. I also just found out that they did ship them here, but only to Indigo and when I just called the store they said they are already sold out.
Everybody has an opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. I just think they should carry it everywhere right away. They should have really had cases when they released the readers in the first place.

Yeah, I think I'll hold out for a book-like cover. With a pouch, I take it out of the pouch to read, and then have to do something with the pouch while reading. If I just flip open the cover like a book, it's still all one piece I dealing with.

Construction-wise the pouches look great, I expect they were simply the most expedient design to start with. Given how many covers are out for Kindle/Sony/Nook, though, I might have thought they'd simply tried to survey which are the best-sellilng options for those devices and emulated that.

I think that they are pretty functional myself ... in my opinion they are simply meant to protect the reader screen from scratches when you toss it into your man bag or purse.

For that purpose they will work great. A little pricey though but what can you do ... I'm going away in a few weeks and needed this so I had to cough up the cash for two of them ... got the last 2 black one's at Milton Indigo.

I do think that when it's in the pouch you'll need to turn it off or risk the side buttons getting pushed. It's not a big deal really, the pouch is obviously meant to protect the screen when it's not in use/being carried around in bag/purse.

They had some at Indigo in Burlington yesterday. I know because I bought the last one. It wasn't even on display, just happened to see it behind the counter.

On a separate note, I actually prefer a sleeve to any kind of flip open binder-style case. When I'm reading I just want the device in my hands. As someone else mentioned the side buttons are protected from accidental touch and I'd say in most cases if you have it with you in a laptop bag or backpack, it is unlikely that the d-pad buttons will get depressed.
