I'm not sure the survey results are as obvious as they seem. I base what I read on the content, but within that subset I am more likely to download, buy, and read if it is free or cheap. That means a couple of things -

1) I don't read free books of genres that I'm not interested in
2) I am not at all opposed to buying expensive books (and have a number of times) but there are a lot of cheap or free books in my favored genres so I keep finding them to queue up. Simply a matter of lots available at low or no cost, so why not take advantage. If good PD books weren't available I expect I'd buy more at full price.
