![]() Actually it appears to be a moderately powerful rare-earth type magnet, and while I agree that it's not *likely* to cause a problem..... how much is your data worth? With today's very thin laptops the drive platters are not very many millimeters away from the case bottom and there's quite a noticeable field from a rare-earth magnet even 1/2" away. I'm living with it at the moment (carrying day-to-day to work) by storing it nearest the top (screen-side) of my laptop and on the left side of that (which is away from my HDD). With that separation, I'm not concerned - but I have several laptops and many laptop bags so that degree of separation isn't feasible in all situations. Richard |

I don't have a Nook, but JAVOedge makes great covers (I have a flip style for my Kindle 2 that has a built in kickstand for hands free use) for various products, including Nook.
You can also get a 15% discount on your order using coupon code "kindlebd". http://www.javoedge.com |

I spent half an hour today at B&N trying to decide on a nook cover, but couldn't decide.. I'm leaning towards the Chesterton one. I love the quote and it seems like a nice soft cover. Also something to clip a book light to if I ever need that.

I am happy with the Noreve cover, see http://www.noreve.com/langue/en/bran...Tradition.html.
It says EUR50, but it is EUR30 once added to your cart. I love the way it holds the nook, no big straps. |

I have the Chesterton one, I love it, soo soft but yet has that nice grip feel to it. I keep myB&N card in the slots on the inside cover. I highly recommend it. |

That is the one I purchased today and I really do like it. I probably read 5 hours with the nook in it today and it was very comfortable to use and hold. I actually found the nook easier to hold in the cover than outside of it. It is also a great looking cover and at $30 seems a good value.

ahhh very cool. The value on this is pretty crazy. $30 you can't go wrong with the Chesterton.
It just feels great in the hand, especially one handed, very easy to hold. |

Well, I decided to go another direction: Body Glove makes a generic e-book cover that holds the Nook and the others using elastic corner straps. Its advantage over the others is that it has a cloth covered hard shell that zips closed, but when it is open, folds completely back and can be zipped open. When you do this, a velcro flap that covers the inside of the front cover, can be folded down to create a stand. Under this flap are two mesh pockets that can hold small things like the power brick and cable and other stuff.
It's only downfall, but not a big deal for me, is that it comes in only one color: black. Hey, it's the new black! $30 at Body Glove Mobile. The also have sleeves and a fitted hard case for the Kindle 2. http://www.bodyglovemobile.com/produ...ase,140,14.htm |

I tried several covers but am thrilled with my beautiful cover from Oberon Design.com. Very secure, I added a silicon cover first for extra protection. I had the book armor last but the method of securing the nook was shoddy and didn't even last a month. Check out Oberon Designs, they make covers for lots of different things.http://www.oberondesign.com/nook.php

When I first got my Nook in Frebruary, I wanted a cover that felt like a book. The covers available then were mainly sleeves or bags, and most seemed too expensive. So I made my own by hollowing out a book. It worked well, in fact great. I had a lot of admirers for my Nook in a book.
I thought about making more and selling them. But carving out a book is tedious and not very safe, requiring a lot of work with an exacto knife or a straight edge razor. The raw material though, discarded books, is free. Anyway, I came up with an alternative. I got materials from Hollander's Bookbinding in Ann Arbor MI to make a cover. To replace the pages, I substituted wood, painted white and textured along the edges to look like pages. I carved notches for the buttons on the top and sides. The Nook sits in a wooden frame glued to the book cover. It's held in place with pieces of velcro. In my present version there is no opening for the charging port. You have to pull it out of the frame. On the next one, I'll cut a notch in the frame for the charging port. I have enough material to make a dozen more. I thought I had something I could sell like hotcakes but with covers like the Industriell available now, I guess I've been scooped. Mine, though, has some advantages over the Industriell. It looks more like a book. I can make them in a variety of colors such as teal green, royal blue, strawberry or burgundy, etc. It takes a couple of hours to make one, so I can't compete with the Industriell in price. I thought I would put them on EBay for $65. Maybe I can still sell a few. Here are pictures of the cover. Last edited by dugong; 06-10-2010 at 12:15 AM. Reason: Adding Pictures |
