Apparently amazon's system allows using the same username. Just tried to log in and out and in with the same email address but different passwords. Worked fine.

You were getting different accounts? I fully expect something is wrong there. I just tried to create an account with my user name (email) and it told me ![]() Although you indicated you're a new customer, an account already exists for XXX@XXXXX.XXX. There is no way they can distinguish between two accounts with the same username. That is just not done and would be a major security hole... BOb |

It may be that one of the log ins is my amazon.co.uk credentials. Didn't use to be able to use that on amazon.com as well. It used to be two different logins. That may explain why I apparently have two logins.

But, this is certainly a bug in their membership system. Having two accounts with the same username boggles the mind... for example what would happen it: 1. You changed your password on one account to the same as the other account? 2. You used the forgot password feature. Which password would it send to you since it can only identify you by your user name? I think there is a security glitch here. If you try to create a new account with your current email address (username) does it let you? I wonder if I could change my username to the same as another account. Hmmm? Sorry, as a web app developer that has to think and worry about security and privacy all the time I am shocked to hear you have two accounts with the same username. BOb |

![]() I do have two accounts with the same user name - but they were not created at the same place. Since amazon.com and amazon.co.uk acted as two different shops not so long ago (and when I created the accounts), it wasn't so strange. To me - NOW - the strange bit is that they seem to have meshed the account information. That I can log on to the USA account using my UK username. It's convenient, but I don't like that they've changed it without notifying me. |

Hurray!
And ditto on the Sony thing--I would seriously have considered a Sony except it only halfway worked with Macs at the time --which is to say it graciously allowed Macs to recognize it as a removable hard drive but that was *it*--no book sorting program, no bookstore, nothing. So I bought an e-book reader that didn't need a computer. Anyway it sure is nice that Amazon has finally included some Macs in the Kindle for computer family. It would be even nicer if it included all Macs, but I recognize that the Big Intel Switch probably makes that harder. But I'm still hoping for FOLDERS or TAGS (hint, hint). |

I sent in a suggestion to Amazon that they let us change the page color (and font color), as well as the sideground gray color. They said, they'd look into it. Being a retired programmer, it's not that big of a deal, but probably wasn't something they thought of, or high on their priority list. (And no, I don't think I was being politely blown off.) The K4PC is still listed as "Beta", so when the "Gold" version comes out, maybe it'll have some of those requests. Send a feedback the Kindle Dev team, they seem responsive. On the K4PC, it a drop down item on the Home page Menu button. |

It is possible to have the same password on both accounts, but you still have two accounts. Having an account at Amazon.co.uk doesn't give you an account at Amazon.com, and vice-versa. |

I can't find the explanation email at the moment, but seem to recall that it was suggested that at one stage, the 'Reset Password' action would create a new account rather than resetting the old account and clearing the stored payment details, then if you remembered/used the 'old' password you got the 'old' account, while the 'new' one took you to the new one. /Gwyn |

I am not sure about that. I have bought on three Amazon sites (.com, .fr and .co.jp) and I believe I've also logged on to .co.uk occasionally (maybe even bought there once). To the best of my knowledge, I only registered once on amazon.com, and afterwards logged on using the same user name and password on the others. They are different accounts, yes, a change in one doesn't automatically reflect on the others, but they must be linked somehow...?

And there may be some 'grandfathering' effects going on - things that apply to old accounts but not new accounts. |
