I haven't read all the posts, but I just have to say the definition quoted in the article would lead to two more words being looked up. One being 'stimulation', since they might not know that, and 'genitals', since it is obvious their parents wouldn't have used that word, either.
Oh, and don't forget 'oral', since they were looking up something with the word oral in it in the first place. You cannot use a word to define itself. Sheesh. Kids know what sex is, it is the oral part they might have to figure out. That definition was more confusing than it was concise.

Not sure what's happening in other countries, but in Australia the teenage pregnancies are going up.

The increase in teen pregnancy here in Australia has little to do with any lessening of education or sensorship and a whole lot to do with the government paying people $5000 to have a child.

You can get a nice LCD tv, Xbox, blue ray player and surround sound set up with $5k and lots of drop kick teens with no job see it as an easy way to fund these kinds of desires.

But apparently its better to solve our perceived declining population "crisis" by funding the dregs of society to have children they can't really afford to care for than it is to increase immigration.

In many places there's not much difference between middle-school and middle-age...

That could be one of the reasons. But I have been a chaperon during ultrasound examinations a few times when teenage girls (15 and under) came in for examinations.

The most memorable was a case where a 14 year old turned up with Mum, brother & boyfriend. A pregnancy was confirmed. Brother & boyfriend just started beating the crap out of her and Mum just yelled at her. Following the little bit that was said:

Mum: I told you not to sleep with the boys you stupid #@$*
Girl: But I didn't. Mum I swear I didn't
Mum: Don't lie to me, you are f#$@g pregnant that's what you are
Girl: But I didn't. I didn't do anything wrong
Mum: How the f@#$ did you get pregnant if you didn't sleep with a boy
Girl: But I didn't sleep with him
Mum: What the F#$@
Girl: I swear Mum, I didn't
Mum: How the hell could he f#$% get you pregnant if you didn't sleep with him
Girl: We didn't sleep together. But you didn't say anything about standing

Hmmm - I'd say more sex ed needed.

there is a direct correlation between removing sex ed in the schools and having a "just say no" policy, and the rise in teen pregnancies

Some of my friends thought I was crazy when I used actual names for my children's body parts, from the time they were born. No 'weenies' or 'bobo's' for us, I used the real terms. They also learned from a fairly early age (when they were old enough to be curious about such things) what regular sex was and what oral sex was. Knowing actual names helped out with the oral sex talk. As they got older I told them more.

They hated road trips, because they would sometimes get 'sex talks', if the conversation took a turn I thought warranted a bit of parental clarification about something they said. I also knew they couldn't get away.

They are thankful now I was so straightforward with them. They come to me for some interesting conversations, too.

But no worries of pregnancy, and I didn't do it by censoring what they read.

Of course every case is different and I'm sure there are those out there that could do with more education.

However, I have not seen any dramatic decrease in sex education at any of the schools I am familiar with. There being an increase in teen pregnancy, but no corresponding decrease in education, leads me to doubt the increase in teen pregnancy has much to do with a lack of education.

Of course the increase in teen pregnancy coinciding with the decision to give $5000 to anyone who had a baby could be coincidental.

there have been quite a few studies done. there is a dramatic DECREASE in sex ed. the message that parents want sent to their students is; "don't have sex, you won't get pregnant". and that's ALL they want to have introduced at the school level. it's not working
