I don't know that this is necessarily an app but I would like some functionality when it comes to filing content. Right now, the Kindle only discerns between books and everything else. What I get is a page that everything from eBooks, audio books and subscriptions to anything I e-mail to it (PDFs). It would be nice to be able to file these things into different areas so I don't have it all jumbled together. There just aren't enough options in this regard.

Additionally, please NO more syncing! That's what I have a smart phone for. Kindle is fine the way it is other than improving on it's core function - that of reading books. Folder/Tags/Categories, etc. THAT'S IT people !

Teleprompter Program.
As a public speaker it would be great to have a program to scroll through books/documents that I write and put on the kindle. It would need to have variable scroll rate. Stop & start buttons that are easy to hit (perhaps page forward & back)

A solution for the syncing bookmarks and last read pages for my different devices.
I use the Iphone Kindle App, my Cybook and the PC while the Kindle DX now is my "main" reader. So i would appreciate a tool which syncs the bookmarks of my personal documents with at least my iphone app (like the books bought via amazon.com do). Doing it by whispernet would be awsom. To bring it to the top it would be some kind of possibility to sync these bookmarks with my Cybook (i.e. by syncing the files containing my bookmarks to a Dropbox via whispernet ... awsom but will never happen i think) |

A crossword puzzle app would be perfect. Then I might drop my daily newspaper subscription, in favor of a Kindle subscription (although I'd still miss the comics).
The other obvious application would be an appointment calendar. I've seen a couple of those out there, but they don't look very polished. Anyone got one to recommend? |

Good pdf reader with free zoom and annotations (yeah I know it's not allowed. But that's the one thing I really need)

Or, what if there was an app that could sync up with Google Books to get page numbers? Even if it could only find page numbers for a few pages within the ebook, interspersed throughout the book, it could make the page approximations more accurate by doing some error-correction. Of course, I'm not a programmer and this is probably really difficult to achieve - but I have a hard time believing it's *impossible* |

Here's another idea - could there be a way to turn syncing on/off for individual books? It'd be nice if I could sync my notes and 'last page read' with my 'kindle for pc' app (and soon to be kindle-for-mac app) for most of my books, but for books my fiancee and I are reading simultaneously turn it off so we don't screw each other up.

Add-ons while reading a document
To my mind there are two kinds of apps that might be viable in the Kindle environment. It's not clear from the Kindle development Kit announcements whether either or both of these will be supported/possible. I speak on the one hand, of standalone apps -- we have some recommendations here for these kinds of apps (mostly games), and on the other hand apps that function in an add-on capacity to basic e-book reading functionality not unlike add-ons that we find in the Firefox browser.
I'm not much for games -- so I have little interest in having these kinds of apps on my Kindle DX. On the other hand, a standalone app allowing me to provide my own screensavers -- actually a standalone configuration app allowing me to specify custom screensavers, timeout values, fonts, and other configuration settings which right now are provided by hacks -- would be high on my list. In the add-on category I would like to see a document search add-on that allowed a search from a highlighted word (or words) in the document backwards or forwards from the point of the highlight. I would also like this search add-on to add additional flexibility in the specification of search terms -- perhaps all the way up to include regular expressions. Another add-on that I would like to see is some kind of synchronization capability (I know others in this thread have requested that we not have such a facility). I would (at a minimum) like the capability to automatically sync all my non-Amazon archive documents onto a PC (preferably in the "My Kindle Content" folder; also it would be desirable to have some kind of sync capability for all documents (both amazon and non-amazon) to a storage location on the Internet -- preferably a capability which would allow one to specify which one of several possible Internet storage facilities could be used. As someone else in this thread has remarked I would also find it desirable to be able to create a database of all of my books: both Kindle resident, and physical books. There are a couple of facilities on the Internet that deal with physical books, but none (to my knowledge) that deal with Kindle books. One problem here is that (at least on Amazon) there are no ISBN numbers for Kindle books. Perhaps this is something beyond the Amazon environment; perhaps the industry needs to agree on ISBN numbers for e-books -- I don't know. But I would like to be able to maintain a database of all my books: both physical and electronic indexed (at a minimum) by ISBN number. Perhaps an app could be created that works with the Amazon my media library website -- again I don't know -- just a recommendation. |

That triggered a thought - it would be nice if there were some way of integrating my database of Kindle books into zotero. (I know, I'm just lazy at this point)
I agree though - syncing my personal documents i've paid amazon to convert (or done myself) into the "kindle for ..." app would be nice. |

i want it to work like Stanza. come on Amazon, Stanza is only an iphone app but the interface is fantastic. honestly, the last thing i've read on my Kindle 2 is my wedding vows.
i was actually hoping that amazon's PC release of the Kindle would include Calibre-like features - tagging of books, adding book info, book cover customisation etc (Calibre for me is the iTunes for books). fine, if the things I mentioned above are impossible, just provide a way to organize books with folders and thats it, id be very happy. and Tap Tap Revenge too, maybe? |

You can kind of acheive this by using the Text to Speech function and turning the volume off completely. There are 3 speed settings to choose from and the pages turn over automatically. So it may just about be do-able with the current set-up.
