Dr Who has always been free to ignore its own "laws" whenever it suits it. You don't honestly think that some vague reference to "only 12 regenerations" will cause the show to be cancelled, do you?

I'm going to miss Catherine Tate. Donna Noble was my favorite companion since Romana. Romana was a young Time Lord who was doing a sort of internship with The Doctor. She was book smart and he was clever, so they made a great team. And she regenerated on the show also! She started out as one actress, then grew to admire the previous companion so much that she "voluntarily" regenerated and came back in the body of the previous actress. I don't think they specified the details, but it must have been some sort of temporary temporal suicide.

The real reason, of course, was that Mary Tamm (the original Romana) decided to leave the show after a single season because she felt that the character was too limited; they already had several more "Romana" scripts written and waiting to be produced, so they needed a replacement in a hurry, and Lalla Ward was available. |

Steven Moffit!
Love the thread ...
My first Doctor was Tom Baker, but I've been a big fan of the three before him as well. I'll miss Tennant of course. He and Eccleston were both terrific. Both of them were better than anyone since Baker in my irrelevant opinion. But I wanted to add one thing to the thread. The coming of the new doctor also marks the beginning of Steven Moffit and the end of Russell Davies. I'm so excited about this that I barely miss Tennant. For those of you who don't know, Moffit is the guy who wrote some of the best (IMO) episodes of the 2005+ series. "Blink" "Silence in the Library". "The Unearthly Child (Are you my mommy?)", and of course "The Girl in the Fireplace" ... Moffit avoids Davies' predilection for "mega-drama" (eg The Stolen Earth, etc). Don't get me wrong, I love Davies for bringing the series back, and he's written some brilliant episodes (e.g. Midnight), but he some of his excesses rubbed me the wrong way. Daleks. No wait. Daleks AND cybermen! The end of the universe! The end of time! I like the subtler stuff, I guess. But hopefully Moffit can build off his track record ... |

I did see the first 1/2 of the new episodes. Have to see the 2nd 1/2. I have them downloaded. So I'll get to it today or tomorrow.

But wait, how could she have recognized Tennant's Doctor if they met after he regenerated? And plus she mentioned he looked older when they first met (Matt Smith looks, because he is, much younger than David Tennant)?
