This was an answer to my recent inquiries on the battery not being as efficient after the 500 upgrade....

Look at the date and version of that update. That is an old update which can be installed by the user and resolve an issue with the battery meter introduced in the previous firmware. Nothing to do with the current (and last, as it seems) update.

Well, I wrote an email directly to one of the repair centers listed on Sony's web for my zone in Spain. They didn't answer yet, though. I guess it's for the holidays or may be they had to check with Sony's headquarters on Spain if they can make the upgrade... Who knows?

In Germany the only official qualified repair center for Sony's eBook readers is:

Sindelfingen - TVS Repair & Logistic GmbH
Böblingerstrasse 74
71065 Sindelfingen
Tel: 07031/2851-100
(they don't seem to have an email address)

You can try and call them. Good luck!

It seems like the new firmware exceeds the device's EPROM capacity and they have to add or replace a chip. Just a thought though.
Sorry guys but I passed on an email just received from Sony without looking at the date. I have since fired back a pointed email telling Sony that they should get their act together because all of the upgraded prs-500's now have problems with the new software and their battery lasting 1/10th of their actual.

Thanks for the address. Anyone else outside of the US, besides AprilHare, who had its reader upgraded there? Before I just send mine there....
