$450 is probably about right for the device. Yes the Kindle DX is $489, but it doesn't have the Wacom pen touchscreen, it supports epub and allows for third party development. The other nice thing I like about the DR800SG is that it is almost the exact same dimensions as a Kindle 2.

But I don't like the fact that they announced the MSRP to be $399 and Best Buy or Irex decided to bump the price up another $50. I could understand it if they had announced it in February and were just now releasing. The price might have gone up that much due to unexpected costs, but to go up that much in barely a months time?

I'll still wait for someone else to review it and hopefully post here. It seems to be everything I want in a reader, at least once they get the note taking part finished.

It's saying "out of stock" for online ordering now but all six of my closest local Best Buys now show "In Stock" for the first time. It would actually be brilliant marketing to list it "by mistake" at $449, then "correct" the price to $399. All those who were thinking that $399 was pretty high (like me) would be so relieved it was $399 not $449 that we'd all rush out and buy it

In that case, lets look at the list more accurately:

6" screen - $290 Kindle 2
8" screen - $450 DR800GS
10" screen - $540 Kindle DX

That is quite competitive.

I was curious if the exchange rates accounted for the difference, but the difference between the rate on 23rd Sep when iRex issued the press release and the rate on 21st Oct. when the DR800SG appeared on Best Buy is less than $5. So I think this is either an error, or Best Buy are simply taking advantage of the fact that you can't buy the DR800SG anywhere else.

Ie not including a cover and charging $30 for a basic one is really milking your customers. These kind of covers cost a few $ to manufacture.

It'll be good for those who have extra money to spend and for those who prefer large screens. As for me I can't see spending over $300 on any given device.

I too saw this announcement - I have been obsessively checking news.google.com for the last week. When I got off work I went to my local Best Buy...it had already been taken off their website and the fellow at Customer Service was not able to give me any information on when it would be in.

I really like both my Kindles but the K2 screen is too small once I used the DX but it's too big to carry around. An 8" screen the size of the K2 sounds about right.
