Are the Ayn Rand books now available somewhere? Other than Anthem, which is in the public domain, I still don't see them in the Kindle Store on Amazon yet.

I voted yes, and it's now my answer for all entertainment. If the publisher hasn't got a digital copy I can buy for my computer, then they've lost a sale. I might, might buy a second hand paperback of something I can't find anywhere else or a rare dvd, but I'm not going back to physical books and discs ever.

In the distant past, when I had Internet access and a palmtop, but no monetary means of purchasing either ebooks or paper books in English, I was reading a lot of darknet books, preferring to read in the language in which they were written. I very rarely had any trouble with the quality of the text in the files, possibly because I could usually choose from many versions for the same books.
Later when I was able to purchase from Amazon, I bought a number of harcover books (about 20) I wanted to have, because of that. For the past few years all I read are public domain ebooks, because I find them more interesting than darknet books. So, in a way, I could say unavailable ebook might represent a lost book sale, as I would never buy a hardcover book if I wasn't sure it's worth it. |

Due to now having dodgy eyesight if it's not an ebook it's a lost sale.

I've never bought that many p-books in the first place, and usually only books that were on sale - books are quite expensive here. I always went to the library. I'm actually buying more books now, because e-books are a lot cheaper.
In any case, I tend to avoid fiction p-books (unless it's a Danish book), even from the library, because they are more convenient. Non-fiction doesn't aways fit the reader device format - such as aquarium books or cookbooks. |

If there isn't an ebook of a book that i want i will buy it, but in general as a used pbook. there are a few authors i will buy in HB. I'm hoping by the time I'm ready to read the new Diana Gabaldon it will be out in ebook, i'm not sure my wrists will be up to the strain of holding the HB

How about this as an option:
Will result in EXTRA pbook sales..... for example, buy the paper version, destroy it so it can be scanned in and read on an electronic deivce. Buy the paper version again so it can go on a bookshelf as part of the rest of the series, where it is never read, but completes the paper set..... Taking into account the UK's version of the DMCA (can't think of the name at the moment), and that you can be sure that 'THEY' are always watching , I would like to declare I'm not actually admitting to perpertrating such a crime. But merely citing it as a possibility. Last edited by Icarusbop; 09-17-2009 at 12:28 PM. |

I like series. Sony quite often does not have all of the books in the series. So it depends on the author. There are some who write series, like James Lee Burke, Jeffery Deaver, Randy Wayne White, etc where it helps develop the story line to read them in order. Others it doesn't seem to matter.

I prefer ebooks now and mostly good SF ones at that. Here in Australia SF that I like is pretty hard to purchase in paperback and very expensive when they are to be found.
So if the ebook cannot be found and purchased and all search options are exhausted it is time to resort to "other sources". |

Yeah. The chance that you will find on the shelf an anthology or collection other than by a handful of Stephen Kings etc. is pretty close to zero, hereo.

Buying Ayn Rand is a loss of a sale of a real book.
