The pricing is the same thing their parent company (Macmillan) has been doing to several releases from St. Martin's so it appears to be some corporate "strategy" to sell ebooks for around $15 when there's a paperback release around half that.

I buy a book on what it is worth to me, not what I think it should cost or what other versions of it are... so I had no problem paying the $9.99 price Amazon had one the book...it was worth it to me, and since i would much rather read an eBook than a paper book, am willing to pay more.

And while I wish they would simply realease all of the books now, I think part of their reasoning is that the publishers mistakenly are thinking that those new to (or who have not faithfully followed) the series will be the ones that buy the eBook and those that have been reading it in paper format will continue too... thus no reason to need to realize the current version before they previous ones are available. It does show a complete lack of understanding of the eBook market though.

I am disappointed in the length of time they have slated between releases of the books (it takes me a lot less than a month to read a book that size and I hate waiting for the next one, but that may not be true for many readers), I could find it acceptable if the reason they give (the time and work put into to make it "perfect") actually panned put. I have already found multiple issues in the formatting of the forst book.

I agree that some of their reasons for stretching the release out don't wash with reality. Even in the prologue there was one OCR howler (Hyena instead of Ilyena) so their attention to detail claim is a bit bogus.

Still, eventually we will get them all in ebook form where they don't weigh so much...

Yeah, on the other hand proffreading such a long book.
And one ocr error is not that much.
Somehow, ePub seams to be better formated than mobi.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh. I am delighted to have the ebook, and it does seem to render nicely on the iPhone using Stanza. However, given the hoops you have to jump through to get it there, I hope I can still do that hoop jumping for the future releases and don't get stuck half way through!

Heh. You could do a diff on the new version and the Darknet version and see which one is more accurate. ;-)

No problem with Waterstones there. They did sell me the ePub edition.

The geographical restrictions are getting weirder every day for this book.
Now BoB has it in ePub and Adobe Digital Editions.
ePub is not for sale in my country, but I'm free to purchase the DE. What is up with that
But never mind, I have my ebook. And hopefully they have sorted this out for the next book.

Another thing I hope they fix for the next books are the maps.
They are pretty useless (on my PRS600 at least). They are way too small, and zooming them only makes them pixelated and unreadable

this is VERY dissappointing. I've missed the last 2 books for a few reasons... mainly that I had gotten in the habit of re-reading at least one if not two books just prior to a new release. what with all of the traveling I've been doing the last few years, dragging the weighty tomes around with me, and also the need to repurchase them AGAIN, made me wait

I decided to see the good side of that and take the opportunity to re-read the serie while following the e-book releases

This is my plan also, I think I should be able to remember what is happening each month! It can't be worse than the wait for the next Song of Ice & Fire book anyway...

I love this series and decided to bite the bullet and buy the epub version from Waterstones.

Overal the book seems pretty good except one area, cover art.

I do not have any cover art supplied in the book, am I supposed to get any? I would have at least expected to get the old cover as a minimum, but no cover at all? I feel a little bit cheated especially at over £7 for it.

There is a different publisher in the UK AFAIK, I think the new cover art was for the US release commissioned by Tor.

As to getting no cover art, I don't know, but a lot of books I buy here in the US have no cover art and instead a kind of placeholder 'art' with the title & author on it. I hate it and wish they'd include the proper cover art.

oh absolutely! it just won't take me (or I have a feeling, any of you) quite that long to read one and then wait for the next (sure is an improvement timewise over reading them the first time around though, I must say!)

I'll admit, a few weeks wait between books is much better than a few years...
