I did with my 500. I told myself I wasn't going to do that and I still did it. Once I saw the Vizplex screen and how better it looked and that it was fast and I liked the layout of the 505 better, I had to upgrade. But since then, I've been happy with my 505. Sony's adding ADE/ePub has made the 505 a current device. I would not dream of purchasing a reader without ADE/ePub.

It another thread he answered this question. There are so many threads on the same product I am surprised anyone can keep them straight. Almost duplicates in asking the same questions over and over.

What he said was that the site is not finished and it was not announced but leaked out ahead of schedule. It is not correct yet but when finished it will accept overseas orders. I do not know when it will be declared as finished.

The closest I've come is with my netbook. I agonized over buying a netbook. I wanted the eeePC when they first came out, and even had one on preorder, but was scared by all the comments about the small screen and keyboard, and tempted to wait by promises about a "better" Dell netbook coming up, so I cancelled it and bought a used Toshiba that was very thin and light, but not as small a footprint as the eeePC. I took it to a conference where I was speaking and it crapped out on me right before my presentation. I finally realized I would have been better off with the eeePC in the first place, so I bought one. If I had just seized the day and bought the netbook I wanted when I wanted it, I wouldn't have had the issue with my presentation, and the enjoyment of the small size of the eeePC for many more months. I think that was what made me realize that I like my gadgets, and I am just an early adopter and I will have to put up with certain disadvantages. It's worked out much more often than not.

That would be true if he said it the price was definetly going to be $199.00; however he said was trying to get it in at that price and even said that he was being told the price was going to be higher. In any case, until a product is actually for sale I take price quotes with a grain of salt.

I also would have liked it to be 199.00, but for me the features are what I was looking for and are worth the extra money.

IMO, it doesn't really matter if the price was with a 'guarantee' - if you make any claim at all about pricing, people are going to be disappointed if you don't meet that pricing.

Nobody's saying he lied, they're saying that it's disappointing that the price wasn't reached - and in some cases, it's impacted if they're going to buy the device. Your being happy with the features at the real price is perfectly fine, but people who feel otherwise have an equally valid point.

Dear All:

When I put up $199-$209 it was based on a discussion we had here at Astak without the factory involved. We all agreed that $199-$209 would be a killer price range IF we could do that.

Panel prices worldwide did go up, about $10 on 5 inch. We cannot control panel prices. I wish we could but that is a whole other industry.

The factory also crammed a lot into the device; and we raised the cost more wanting colors. The factory also has more distributors of the device around the globe and they need to be fair to all on pricing.

I am NOT trying to make excuses. I am instead just trying to let you know what happened. Agian, this is why in the future we will quote no price before release. I am overjoyed that people lock in on the details I give out... but when costs rise the selling cost must rise.

SO... I will assume the blame and criticism for shooting off my big mouth way too early. I tried to give a price point we expected to be able to hit... and costs rose. I accept the blame!

Dear Chuck:

Yes, I have plenty of material. I have learned a lesson and that is to shut up on price until it is cast in concrete because costs change.

I do not blame anybody for taking what I say and trusting it. I just hoped that they would understand that it was my very best educated guess. This is why I will be more reluctant to guess in the future. This is why I have been forbidden to guess in the future.

I try to be different than all the other manufacturers by being as open as possible. My intent was to treat people to the best knowledge I had. But, I forgot that if my knowledge was faulty I need to accept the blame or shut up. I will shut up on pricing in the future.

That is, I think, a good plan

And I'm not blaming you at all! Circumstances change - I just know that personally, the sub-200 is the price point I'm looking at for a second reader and anything above that I can't justify.

Also we all need to understand that this is a changing world and things change at the speed of light.
By the way I love the new EZreader firmware and will be looking forward to the updates that will hopefully also add ereader to the Digital Editions.
For now I love my EZreader but if in the future that is on that is the 9.7 inch screen and is as good or better than the EZreader I will be go that route. You know the older the eyes the need for the bigger screen.

Thanks so much for all the information that you do and can give us.

Dear Chuck:

That is great news that you love the firmware upgrade. Yes, after so long, I am overjoyed that this seems to be working smoothly for all concerned.

Yes, things do change so quickly in this world. I note several people say they will wait until September and see if prices go down. ALL I can say is there is nothing I can see where prices will drop. Panel prices worldwide are expected to rise and not drop. With B&N, Apple, and more all jumping into eBook Readers... give some thought, all!! More devices mean more demand for panels. Yes, you can wait. But, I see prices going up and not down as demand grows.

Demand is a funny thing. Demand can be a friend to the consumer and allow economy of scale. But, once you reach a certain point, demand becomes the enemy and prices rise. My other point is an old one: "He Who Hesitates Is Lost". Maybe it is just me, but for want of $20 I do not let a $200 decision go unanswered. I am not putting anybody down... but why deprive yourself for a few months of a really spectacular device like the Pocket PRO IS over $20. This device, in my humble opinion is a breakthrough. All those who said: "I want more speed", "I need pdf reflow", "I want to personalize by having it in color", "I need more grey scale", "I want drm capability", "I want to be able to buy from almost any website"... THIS IS THE ANSWER!!

You know what I do see... prices going up and by the time you want to buy you may not have the color choice you want. We CANNOT assure that the choice you want will be available. We have, right now, 200 of each. We can order more but it takes time!
