I agree! I am finding less and less mobi ebooks in the libraries. And I have no need (or desire) to download and and format shift just so I can put them on my sony. I just took a road trip two days ago and now have access to 4 more libraries....2 of which have epub books. This will save me a TON of money.

I think this will become a major selling point with the Sony.

F1wild, thats a shame to hear that you returned the Sony...hope you enjoy the Kindle.

You're welcome! I'm glad it's going to a good home and I didn't have to put it on Craigslist!

I guess for me it would be a third reader since I also have a 700. However, the 700 lives in a dark nightstand drawer and never gets to come out and play.
Looking to sell it to someone who would let it live in the light? (Only kinda kidding)

Maybe I will defect also

For right now, I am very happy with my PRS-505.

However, after I win the Summer Giveaway, I guess I will be able do my own comparision of the 505 and a Kindle.

Phoenix during monsoon season can feel a bit tropical. Except for the massive dust storms that fill your pool with mud.

The desert is a beautiful place. Too bad it's so darn hot! That's why I "defected" from Tempe back to San Diego after four sweltering summers in the Valley of the Sun.

I do miss the lightning and rain of monsoon season. I also saw some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets there. I remember one sunset where I stood outside my car (in Ahwatukee) looking at the sky for several minutes thinking that I had never seen that shade of blue ever in my life and didn't want to miss a single second.

Oh, and by the way, my K2 will be here by Friday so, although I'm keeping my 505 also, I'll enjoy the benefits of both readers. And if the K2 font size is larger than my 505, the K2 will likely become the preferred reader of my aging eyes.

You're going to love the K2. That's great you're keeping the PRS-505; I would never part with it unless Sony came out with a better device (I have a lot of LRX books). I love owning both; I feel that they really compliment each other.

Speaking as someone who owns both a 505 and a K2, but lacks access to the Sony bookstore because I use a Mac, I figure maybe it might be a good idea to think of the devices using thought experiments.

So here's a couple:

(1) Suppose that the 505 had access to the Amazon Kindle store, and could wirelessly purchase, download and read K formatted books. On those terms, which would be the better ebook device?

(2) Suppose that the K2 lacked wireless purchasing and downloading. Would the Sony bookstore and other purchasing options, taken together, be better than what Amazon offers in terms of availability of recently published books, and price?

Given that I do not own a Sony, or Kindle and I do not live in the US

From what I have read in this thread -the Sony reader seems far and away more versatile and cost effective for US residents. You can access many free sites and *public library ebooks* - this seems to be a great advantage.

Apparently, one can subscribe to electronic public library sites - and check out ebooks over the Internet! And then - if you must have the latest bestseller - buy from the Sony store (or other online store).

The Kindle (2) seems to be faster (whispernet) and easier(?) - but you must purchase your books from the Amazon-Kindle-store at 9,99$ each - which can really add up. Even I (being employed full-time) read 1-2 books a week.

I can envision the costs mounting up very quickly.

As you may have seen, I'm in Ahwatukee (Foothills) and we do have some of the most glorious sunsets. Would love to "defect" to San Diego (used to spend most weekends there), but when you weigh the cost of living Phoenix wins by a mile...money no object, I'd be in SD!

Hope you received your K2, charged it fully and enjoyed your first wander into a lovely book!
