I don't use mobidedrm, but KindlePID definitely generates a proper PID for my Graphite, because I've used it to re-download mobi DRM books that I had previously purchased from eFollet.

If mobidedrm is a script, you should be able to edit it. Look for the error message in the script and see what condition(s) it's testing for. It may be something that can be easily modified. One possibility (just a guess) is that the new PID contains a character or formatting different from older PIDs, and the script assumes that it is not valid.

Unfortunately the fix is not trivial in this case. Starting with 2.5.x Amazon has slightly changed the way their DRM works.
However, there are alternatives. The thread I mentioned before discusses one of those:

It's like Sony and Amazon reversed places in the DRM thing. Last year, the Sony LRX DRM format wasn't removable, and the Amazon one was. I purchased basically all of my books from Amazon, and moved to the Sony as needed. Now, with the new Kindle DRM, and the Sony move to ePub, I can't move books from my Kindle, but can from the Sony, and both stores sell for basically the same (new, higher) price thanks to the monopoly ... sorry, I mean agency ... model.

So, I can get the same content from two (or many) different places for the same price. Given that, I'm more likely to purchase from the place that is either DRM free or at least has DRM that I could remove.
