I usually average about 1 book a week (of the 350-500 page variety). Although it depends mightily on how much work/travel/family time I have in each week. Some months I feel like I haven't read anything, and then other months I devour books two at a time. But my question would be - what about audio books? I have over an hour of commute per day, so I always have an audio book going in addition to whatever I am physically reading. If you include audio books, I've 'read' more than 50 in a year.

So far I have read 31 books in 2009.
About three fourth are novels, these average about 500 pages each.
The rest are academics books, these must average at about 600-800 pages.
I am a fast reader, especially for the novels.
And on the other hand, I must have watched less than 1 hour of TV in 2009, not counting series and movies that we rather watch on DVD

hm, here bookstores are EVERYWHERE.
I can second many things zelda_pinwheel said. Here in Mexico books are a lot less popular too. The bookstore in my small French hometown (pop. 5k) was almost as big as the biggest bookstore in the 400K pop. town I now live in.

And I really miss the used book bookstore too. These are a really good way to get a nice DT librairy if you're not in a hurry. You can find very nice hardback editions for 2-4€ apiece.

I read about 2-4 books a week (sometimes more depending on how busy I am), often rereads as I can't get new books all the time

So definately over 50, atleast around 100 (or more) a year, average number of pages 300-500 some more, but not many under 300 (they are to short), and thats not counting my ebooks.

I probably should start making a list of books I read, actually I can do that in the book collectors program I bought when I think about it, I just need time to register them

I read at least a book a week - I have about 10 hours of commuting that i can read in (and reading on a packed tube is a lot easier with the Sony), don't watch much TV (it's on when we're eating and that's about it), and I read whilst cooking, in the bathroom and when I'm online (it's not unknown for me to be switching between checking MR & reading a current book)

Arghhhh! I have to ask -why must I have a "Hairy nosed Otter" on my coat of arms (Not mine I stole from CC) ?

Actually you are closer than you could imagine, I was very nearly extinct in 1998 - but that is another story!

Hi, heard my name, right here, what? Book culture? No, not a single book here in Germany and we even don't know how to spell the word Bok Storrre.
Seriously: Of course, there are book stores, but you're right, probably not as many as in other countries. Z's also right, the Germans are outdoor "activists", especially in the south.
I read about a book every ten days and was honestly thinking that was a lot (compared to all people I know in real life). Apparently it's not. To be honest, I'm sort of relieved that there are a lot of bookworms who read far more books than me. I suddenly feel so "normal"

Edit: Wait - do books for children count? I read about one book a day to the kids. And do I get a bonus for being forced to read the very same book over and over again and be yelled at when I try to leave out some parts?
