It is a bit irritating that if you want to try a new author, most of his books will be available wxcept the first one or two.

What it more annoying is series that are not all that recent. Sure the new books will be available, but a lot of the time, the older ones are not and if you want to start the series from the beginning, you are well and truly screwed.

Old post..but since I see it up here...I read maybe as much as 80/20 (reader/pbook) this time of year, and maybe during the colder months 60/40. My percentage of reader time varies and it has increased alot not just because of my preference, but in the summer I spend so much more time away from home-I simply don't get to the stack of books on my nightstand that I am currently reading, nevermind the "to read" stacks.
For me it usually breaks down to cost and whether or not something is a keeper. If its something I want to read and but not necessarily keep,or want to share/pass it along-I won't buy it in ebook format. I find that it takes me much longer to read something not on my reader-because I am reluctant to carry the books around with me. Plus it is SO much easier to read on the reader during my commute than with a regular book... My reader fits in most of my everyday purses/totes-and definately my weekend tote-the only time I don't carry it is when/if I am going out and my bag is too small for it. |

I love when these old threads rise again.
I read on my reader whenever given a choice, meaning whenever the books are available in e-format. Some of the required reading I have isn't available electronically. Mostly I read at home, but I'm ordering an Aquapac so I can read in a jacuzzi or at the beach. |

I haven't bought a paperback since I picked up Dean Koontz's Phantoms at a second-hand bookstore over a year ago. I do nearly all my reading on the Kindle now, and am sorely tempted to scan and OCR the paper-books I still use.

Right there with you. I'm probably going to pay someone to do that for me.

I'm pretty stuck on just ebooks. If something is not available as an ebook and I really really really want to read it, I may get the pbook. Besides that, I prefer my reader. It's so much easier to carry in my purse than a hulking hardback or thick pbook.

I still buy reference books in paper and hardbacks for presents. But for myself, it's eBook or nothing now. Much like with CDs and DVDs I've no plans to build a large physical collection again, much prefer the digital format and space it saves. It'll be great once eBooks reach the same level of availability as Music has, even better when Movies do the same ![]() |

Since buying my sony a few months ago I haven't touched a paperback, the only time I am reading and its not an ebook is that 10-15 mins at the start and end of flights when they make you switch stuff off.
It's weird, but when I first bought my reader i was expecting it to make things more convenient for me to take a few books with me when travelling and didn't expect it to so totally takeover my reading time in the way it has e.g. the two new books I bought at the same time as the reader are still sitting unopened on my bookshelf. |

This kinda fits this topic- sorta
Do the lighted Sony covers actually work and could I read 6 or 7 books in a 2 week period without recharging? |

since buying my sony reader i now only read ebooks
if theres something i want thats not available to buy then i move onto something else, there are far to many books/authors i have not read. (for instance at the minute im visiting my 100 free ebooks cd as im a little poor at the mo) i am still annoyed however that i have to pay extrordinary amounts for some ebooks than i can pick up in pback for next to nothing. |
