Interesting that you should say this as I am still suffering from the remorseof buying the 505 over the 700 - not that i don't like the 505, but more of the fear of not having the newest one.

That was my opinion too, i was not going to pay more money for a device with a significantly worse screen. If screen quality was the same, then the extra stuff would probably make the price difference palatable and tempt me to buy the 700, as i suspect most people here would too.

That was the deciding factor when I saw them side by side...still irks me that I don't have the newest one...

If you can make it to Borders - with coupon - you may be able to get it for $199. And my Borders had blue and Target only has silver.

I had wanted the blue because I'd previously noticed it was much easier for me to read using my Palm TX (dark blue) than my silver iPaq.

We don't have a Borders anywhere close. I Googled it a day or so ago. It's too bad they had to renig on their offer which was supposed to be good until June 14. I don't plan on buying one at Target, just want to see one in person. WHat I really think I want is the Michael Connelly Special Edition.

That is an excellent point about colors. My Palm TX is black and it is much easier to read then me Silver Zire 72 was.

Most people in this thread seemed to think the silver 505 wasn't any different from the blue one in terms of readability, just in case you only have a choice of the silver when buying.

A word of advice: let her do lots and lots and lots of shopping first...then mosy over to electronics.

We went different ways and I headed straight t electronics. The service people they had there were useless but I did get to play with it quite a bit. I like the 3 different font sizes. I figured out that the left button can be used to turn the page but don't know yet what else it does and I'm not quite sure what the right wheel does. Also like the expandable memory. It is way more readable then my TX.

Don;t worry Tedmann, color would not be a deal breaker!

Lots of debate about the best place to buy ebooks - this thread should help but also check the wiki which is a great source of information and links. As well as stores it has links to free sources of ebooks (apart from here!) and libraries for borrowing ebooks.
