Does the fact that they'll be using Adobe ADEPT DRM means they'll also be using Adobe epub engine, the same as Sony? Because on my 505 the epub rendering is quite slow even for well formatted ebooks (compared to the lrf format).

Even if there was sufficient supply of Kindles, Amazon can not move into European markets with the current equipment. The wireless component of the service runs on Sprint EVDO/CDMA network. If I am not mistaken, there is no CDMA service in Europe, all of their stuff is GSM.

A new device is needed for the Old World.

What is more intriguing is that Amazon has not yet moved into the Canadian market, which has CDMA/EVDO service (Bell).

Odd because I sign out epub book releases out of my library here in Ottawa all the time and I have zero problems with latency in terms of rendering. In fact, I think that on occasion, the epub has rendered faster than the LRF of the exact same book. I agree that the performance is not an even one but overall I quite enjoy the PRS-505 epub implementation.

The difference in speed is a due to the size of the splits. As you may know, ePub consists not of one big chunk of text, but of different splits. If those are bigger, the rendering engine is slower. I am a bit worried about this concerning the Cybook as the Cybook hardware is weaker than the Sony's.

I for myself would prefer 2 firmwareversions to choose from.
1) mobi + drm, epub/pdf - drm
2) mobi - drm, epub/mobi + drm

That way they would be on the safe side and custumers would stay happy too.

It does look like Bookeen has replaced Mobi with ePub, right now. On Weltbild.ch and on Hugendübel.de (a major german book store) the cybook is sold wit ePub support and no mention of Mobi.

I still have hope, the rest of the description is not very accurate either, they may have simply dropped it in the description because they didn't find it to be important...

Are they actually selling it, or is it still a promise to sell it staring from some date ? Are they accepting orders and delivering ? As far as you know, of course.

Does that mean when I buy my Cybook in a couple of months, none of my .prc books will be readable on the device? What is ePub and how would I convert my hundreds of ebooks from .prc to ePub? OMG HELP! I'm in tears here... I was so looking forward to getting my Cybook.

Hugendübel is selling it, Weltbild Switzerland is offering it (with the mention starting in April). So that is not very clear.

There is nothing doubtfull when they put:

Liest pdf-, epub-, HTML-, txt-, jpg- und MP3-Formate

They just dropped MOBI.......

Completely absurd, what do they suggest, that we just throw away all the drm-ed mobi-books that we've got?
They can't be thinking everybody can and will de-drm their books. Not only is that just too technical for some people, it's just plain illegal.

Ah ah, the irony of it, it'll make removing drm legal for me, as it now became needed for interoperability reasons. Not that my E-book arent' already drm free anyway.
And even if not, i don't care. I'll be dammed if drm prevent me to read my books.

If that's true well, screw you amazon !

No, it will give you a justification to remove the DRM (as it will for me), it will stil be illegal

I just can't believe bookeen does that to their customers. They have the machine with the best mobi-support in the business........and they just abandon it........

If the rumours are true, and Bookeeen drop support for Mobipocket in the next firmware, there is a simple, if possibly illegal, option.

1. Strip any DRM on your Mobipocket books.
2. Convert to ePUB using calibre.
