It's 11653 books now.

After removing the most obvious duplicates (just different formats and/or dates), it goes down to 5958. Still quite few duplicates remaining.

It's been considered, and the general consensus among the authors is that they'd rather not have it. It removes their opportunity to get individual comments on the books they've formatted, and removes their download count--the only mark they've got of how popular a title is.
