Poor sad man, has he never traveled ANYWHERE or had ANY friends? Has nothing ever happened to him besides his childhood, misery, insomnia, getting lost in the woods, very very bad dreams, too many Clint Eastwood movies as a child, and of course, least we forget - his accident???

He lived in Boulder, Colorado for awhile. Which is why The Shining and The Stand are set there.

He's certainly not the only author to do that.

Isaac Asimov, in his murder mystery "Murder at the ABA" has an absolutely hillarious parody of himself as a character in the book. Well worth a read

I don't see the problem with him using an author as a protagonist in many of his books. Many SF authors are scientists and make scientists the heroes of their books.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park where King got the inspiration for The Shining.

When I was there, I wanted to find an axe and have a picture of myself taken in front of the hotel.

He doesn't have much good to say about other writers either. Just check out his attack on Stephanie Myers (I agree with him, but it was nasty to make it public).

Actually he said several good things to say about some writers (J K Rowling, Jodi Picoult, Richard Matheson), just not Meyer.

I know, but its kind of petty when an author so huge and with so much influence attacks another author. I yearn for the days when writers used to headbutt each other when they didn't like the work (I'm looking at you Gore Vidal and Normal Mailer).

So cause he has influence hes not allowed to voice his opinion? I dont think so. He has every right. Critics and other authors sure didnt/still dont have a prob taking shots at King
