Can you point to some technical explanation of that? Because in order to READ and WRITE files to an SD card the slot MUST support I/O.

Does seem to say there is a hardware difference. See I learn so much being here.

So, if Sony doesn't have this they can create a 510 with the correct hardware.

As far as, "only one support device" I would expect that. Sony would OEM a card can call it the SonyFi card or something for the reader.

They are building an OTA book store so you can shop for books over WiFi at home.

Not really. A device can have a touchscreen without negative impact on screen quality. There are ways to do it with the touch sensitive layer behind the screen. There are also ways to do it without any layers in front or behind the screen (but with an active pen).

I don't know if that is caused by the touchscreen or the light but Sony messed up the PRS-700. It doesn't have to be that way.

Indeed. I am a typical gadget guy and love cool stuff. I have an iPhone, iMac, other cool stuff and and love them to bits.

But to be honest when I do decide to get an ebook reader I will load it with a few books and start reading. Then I'll syn or load it with a few more and so on and so on. I don't feel the need for wifi, 3G etc etc.
They can add that stuff when the price starts dropping so low that it will not make a huge impact.

My two cents.

The reason behind 3G/Wifi is that you can download your books wherever you are. The same reason as why the Kindle has it. And also, the device will be able to read RSS feeds, but you will need an internet connection for that. That way you can use it for reading your news as well.

Another picture of the device over on engadget:

Apologies to the mods if linking another site isn't allowed, I had a look through the rules and couldn't see anything banning it.

LOL. I don't think this is strictly about need. After all, do you even truly need an ebook reader. It's a bit of a luxury item. Many people want wireless. Frankly, I find it adds to my reading experience in a meaningful way. Luckily there is more than one device to choose from.

Personally, the ability to go from ebook sample to full ebook with practically no pause in reading leads me to sample all sorts of books I wouldn't necessarily commit to buying. Also the on board Web and Wikipedia search is nice for a quick bit of research on whatever I'm reading without really disrupting my reading experience.

Exactly the reason why they did not allow people to take pictures. They want to control the first impressions of the screen people will form in their minds. The pictures of the Bebook 1 on their internet shop show perfect white screens too.
You can either call that marketing, manipulation or fraud.

I have Wikipedia on my first generation Hanlin V3 clone without internet.
