I am a lifelong student of the History of Religions. It is something that will never leave my life. I was completely overwhelmed and overjoyed beyond words when I found that there were numerous relatively obscure titles covering Hopi, Navajo and Apache Mythos available on the KINDLE!!!! I have purchased every one of them I have found thus far, and will continue to purchase them.

I'm also an avid student of Women's Issues, primarily those affected by Religion and how they have been treated through History. There are some very good books about The Islamic World and its affect on Women. Not to mention simply reading about the History of Islam and its impact on World History. An offshoot of this is a fascination with the Templars and all things Masonic, which over the last 15 or so years has had a great impact on Fiction, specifically the Fantasy genre.

I also Breed and Train Newfoundland Dogs. The Training I do focuses primarily on the use of the Dogs for Search and Rescue. Doing this puts me in a lot of contact with Chlidrens Organizations which is great because as a lifelong Girl Scout and being the mother of two EmancipatedChildren.

And in my spare time I like to participate in Black Powder Rendezvous and thouroughly enjoy Muzzle Loading Rifles. Of course I really like Collecting guns. In some of my other spare time I am an avid Skier and foodie. And I haven't even started on what I do Professionally to support my reading habits.

I don't think folders is a minority issue. But maybe that's because I want folders too. And yes, tags wouldn't be as good as folders, but they would do, provided you had the option of displaying only items with multiple tags (say, "science fiction" and "biology" to pop up science fiction books about biology for example) if you wanted to.

And I did ask Amazon for folders way back when, but maybe I should do it again.

Not if you want to organize your files so they can be used on other readers also like FBReader. The good thing with folders is that you do not need a special program that understands the tags.

Also, tags are much more fragile (likely to be lost) than directories.

If tags are implemented, then a way to get some of the advantages of directories is to have directory names automatically appear as tags. Or have an external program that adds tags based on directory names.

Tags are much more usefull and flexible than folders.

Of course, tags would be useless without that. That is what makes tags so much better. You don't have to stick to a single taxonomy as you do with folders.

I agree with you 100% ... tags are better than folders. Some people just dont get "tags". Folders are vestiges of DOS, Outlook and tons of other apps that basically lock people into the "folder paradigm"

I would rather see tags than folders if it came to that in the Kindle. Tags allow a book to be in two or more "places" at once. For instance a book could be tagged as a mystery and thriller, using the folder paradigm it's either one or the other (unless the book file existed in both folders, which probably cant happen to begin with and it would be a waste of space if it could).

Folders...

they didn't actually. they just added an easier way to tag & archive an email. I use it all the time now.

Tags or folders ... I would just like a way to organize my ebooks on my Kindle. I stick with the Kindle for the search and dictionary support, it's more important to me than the folder issue but I still want folders! Tags are okay as long as I can still access them somehow, someway on my PC such as using Calibre.

I have have a ton of books on my Kindle and I too want a better way to organize and view my contents. Tags, Labels, Folders, Shelves, Whatever, Don't Care, just give me something.

I really don't understand why Amazon hasn't provided this feature yet. My guess is that they think their customers are stupid and would get confused by the highly technical folders.

As a work around, I sort by title or author then press the first 2 letters in the authors/titles name. You have to press the keys pretty quick but it works pretty good. However, I'd still like to filter by a single author, or sort by genre, etc.

Hmm, folders would be nice. I think I'm going to email them. I only have 3 pages worth of items so far, and I can see how it can get a tad bit messy with more.

One of the reason why I purchased jetBoook - it has folders and subfolders and even subsubfolders support ... the same as on PC
I just copy ebooks with all folders and subfolders from my PC on 2 GB SD card, insert it in jetBook and see it the same way as I see it on my Windows Commander
