I HATE those ads! It totally ruins a good History or Discovery program when they pop up... What happened to all the FOOD ads to make you get up and get something to eat?

Weldon's Bulgari Product Placement Raises Eyebrows
By Calvin Reid -- Publishers Weekly, 9/10/2001

In an e-mail interview with PW, British novelist Fay Weldon discussed why she agreed to write a novel commissioned by the chic jewelry maker Bulgari, and responded to publishers, writers and readers critical of her venture into literary product placement.

I loved the ending paragraph.....

"A novelist working in the U.S. or the U.K. is lucky if he or she earns at more than subsistence level," Weldon said. "I blame the readers, not the writers. They're an idle lot, they don't read nearly enough," she joked. "If they did, none of this would be necessary."

English isn't my mother language, but it seems to me that the title of the topic, and the question of the poll are just the opposite... Am I right with this ?
If so, I fear there could have been some mistakes in the vote...
Maybe the question could be rewrite to take off all ambiguity...

No, No, No. I have Sirius radio so I don't have to listen to ads and I have TIVO to skip the commercials. I would pay the extra to have books without ads.

No, you're right. I voted "No" and it should have been "Yes." I replied to the title of the topic instead of the question of the poll.

Caught me as well.

Although I'd rather pay a premium for an ebook without ads, if the choice was between an ebook with ads or a paper book, I'd go for the ebook. I already read magazines with ads on my DR1000S and although they are a little annoying it doesn't ruin the experience. With novels it may be a little different though, because if you are immersed in the story and the next page is an advert that could pull you out.

I read for an escape from the world, so yes, I would find it very irritating if ebooks contained ads.

I think it would be great if you could get the books both ways -- with and without ads, depending on something like how much you pay. Just like mobileread -- if you are logged in you don't ads, otherwise you do.

This would be another way to share books/information/knowledge with the masses without them having to pay. Except for the reader, of course. Those who can afford or care enough can get the same stuff without ads.

I just realized that the question that is the subject of the poll has the opposite answer from the question that is the thread title. It might be a little confusing -- hopefully people are reading closely and we're getting accurate poll results!

Extremely irritating...

....And NO, I would NOT buy any ebook that contained more than the usual ads that appear in pbooks already, those at the end of the book.

So the question in the poll coul as well have been: "Do you carefully read questions in polls?"
